I am not an expert but I believe Pakistan has found a very simple approach to deal with Coronavirus. If you are unaware of herd immunity please watch video at the bottom. To distill the argument, Pakistan's 50-70% population must be immune to Coronavirus to effectively curb the spread of Coronvirus. The problem is lockdowns don't achieve that because immunity requires a person to be infected by the virus first and then recover. And if to produce immunity in population lockdowns are lifted, the burden on health care systems can be overwhelming with disastrous consequences.
I believe Pakistan has decided to infect the population in waves with intermittent lockdowns to produce immunity in population and also to control the amount of load on our health care system.

No thanks. Not taking chances with my parents life. First every politician should be infected with corona first.
There is always a possibility of a vaccine that immunizes 50-70% population against coronavirus hence achieving herd immunity but that seems to be far fetched right now.

Pakistan has not found a approach. The reality on the ground has imposed this approach because there is NO other option. Do you think the PK government has enough money to pay everybody to stay locked in? Even UK is opening up after 2 months because it is placing incredible strain on the economy. This comes after UK government effectively paying the entire country to stay home for 2 months.

In Pakistan huge swathes of population would begin to starve as they would begin to run out of money. Now if you are the lucky group of Pakistani's who have accumultated wealth [either loot or legal] then nobody os forcing you or your family or parents to go out and work. Keep self isolated as your lucky you can afford it.

But spare a thought of millions who can't afford to ....

Ps. And if your so concerned for the poor why not sponsor a family to stay at home until a vaccine is found for the virus. Clearly the government does not have funds because too many Paks refuse to pay taxes.

I wish Imran Khan and his sons and his wives and girlfriends were infected first.

But no, sala ghareeb kuttay ki maut marega (poor must die like a dog) for herd immunity.

The life of Imran Khan is like an angel, the life of a normal Pakistani is piece of poop.
I think you have too much poop in your brain and too much hate in your heart. See Psychiatrist ASAP.

I second you.

However, Each and All of us are going to taste it sooner or later.
Once something is unleashed, it is gonna pass through all of us. Like it or not.

Agreed. In economically challenging situations, and perhaps third world countries in general, i feel that this approach is justified.

Not necessarily if vaccine is here by next year.

The stark reality is in the absence of a vaccine, infection is the only path to achieving immunity against Coronavirus. The time for Chine-type lockdowns are gone.

This is exactly what I was thinking while reading OP.

People just throwing off "herd immunity" idea every now and then without actually realizing this could mean people they know or themselves dying if they have weak immunity. This nonsense idea was mentioned I believe in UK and they are among the worst hit by the virus.

There is this thing which is partially effective in producing immunity as far as I know.

The cost to UK is approaching the cost of WW2. Yet what has been achieved? No cure. I am not anymore safer then I was 2 months ago. Neither are my parents. The only benefit has been that the hospitals [NHS] have been buffed up to handle mass infection patients needing ventilators. Pakistan has no money like UK. The only approach for the poor is to avoid it as long as possible, which depends on whether you can close the front door and not go out and have the money to live like that until a vaccine is found. Maybe 6 months, maybe 1 year, maybe never.

I believe that only helps while infected as it reduces the severity of the disease in some patients. It is of no good to the general population. Even this willn be only available to the well off in Pakistan.

Here immunity is necessary for densely populated countries like Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Otherwise corona will be a national crisis and millions will die.
