Pakistan's debt worth $27b to mature in two years: IMF

Ganga slapping its dick around the region Banga with garment exports and Yankee pulling out of the region at least I see some ball rolling these days
Could not have said it better. I actually blame our predicament [the $100 billion mountain debt about to bury us] on our awaam and PM IK. Awaam for being stupid for voting like of Zardari and Nawaz when they had plent of experiance from 1990s of them. PM IK for being too bloody stubborn and thinking Pakistan is UK where principled politics will win you elections. In 2008 if IK had decided to 'play the game' as is played in Pakistani politics he could have taken in the 'electables' and 'borrowed' lot of Musharaf's ministers and possibly won the government in 2008. Or possibly even used Musharaf to walk into halls of power in 2001 like Nawaz used Gen. Zia or Bhutto senior used Gen. Ayub Khan.

We could have had him ruling the country since over decade and Pakistan's situation would have been lot better. Politics is a dirty game. It took decades for IK to finally accept this and dirty his hands.

And he won but a bit late. Now Pakistan is about to be buried under $100 billion debt.

The Awaam finally matured at the worst junction of history the problem the awam faced was the lies peddled by the politicians kissing the ring of clerics who pushed Pakistan was "STRONK" and this however I think the massive expansion of the Internet has exposed the ugly scenes of politics in Pakistan in the 2000s as for IK yes he tried using baby gloves he did that also in 2013 still lost to NOORA and his gang as for Pakistan nothing is too late where was Banga in the 90s and early 2000s nothing its only since the mid 2000s they been exporting garments thanks to Pakistani textile sector bussinessmen who wanted to skirt red tape so nothing is too late we have another chance but if we f..c.ked this up we are screwed but I know the GHQ and folks in the PAF will make sure things are straight also the hybrid war fare we have improved Pakistanis are no longer kissing *** to Indian liberals about Ebil Pakistan they are becoming more nationalistic day by day all these Indian lying trolls will inspire Pakistanis to keep tabs on civic affairs make sure things go forward

People still dont understand
Ultimately if people dont wake up the country will bankrupt
Subsidizing the rich and middle class via low oil/gas prices will ruin the country..look at india.bangaldesh oil prices are 50% higher despite india being much more better at refinery and getting cheaper oil from Iran

27 billion is a lot of money. Especially considering Primary deficit and CAD.

.
sorry this is called fck you IMF...Haram zaday Governments of PPP and PMLN destroyed our country for good.

.
Or the fact they go for "medical checkups" abroad should really answer that question, this is the problem with Pakistanis lack of patient and a overpopulated with young folks you will have this mentality all is lost I am not saying IK is genie in a bottle and in 5 years magically everything will change it wont but to get the ball rolling is better than just sitting by watching how the PRC become a superpower, Ganga slapping its dick around the region Banga with garment exports and Yankee pulling out of the region at least I see some ball rolling these days

And people keep complaining about PM IK. Those scumbags Zardari and Nawaz have literally pawned away the country. $27 billion in two years. That is more then the entire expors in one year ffs.

Just to clarify when Musharaf left [I am always critical of him] the debt burden was only $47 billion. In just ten years since 2008 to 2018 Zardari/Nawaz borrowe over $50 billion or more money then in the previous 60 years. This chart below says it all loot/plunder. It is sickening.

It takes a chart to make things clear, God help Pakistan....

Well this is a watershed moment. Personally I like these kind of situation when our back to the wall triggers a resolute fight, but not sure about our people. Expect a complete ban on the import of cars and mobile phones in the coming budget.

What people need to ask Zardari and Nawaz is what was $50 billion spent on? Where is it? $50 billion would have built two Diamer Bhasha Dams or and one Diamer Bhasha and Kalabagh Dam. Or provide enouhjt money for full on modern hospitals in every district in Pakistan with enough money left to build a Diamer Bhasha dam.

A majority of the loans taken during that period actually went into paying the previous loans. This present vicious cycle has been a long time in the making and will only snowball from here on.

In this situation, why can not Pakistan ban every import except those items that will generate export for your industry...Apart from Petrochemical,Medicine and heavy industrial item that can be used by your industry, rest of the items can be restricted

things are not all gloom, and debt is not nearly as bad..debt isnt a problem here as external debt is merely 30% of GDP, rolling over debt is easy..
the problem is that people are hooked up on debt like a drug..and i dont see this behavior
changing

but it will become a probelm if tough logical steps are not taken now..but there is strong resistance to that which will ultimately leed this govt to fall. the next govt will keep on taking debt for next 10 years untill debt hit 60-70% of GDP and that is when there will e no turning back

27 billion USD debt maturity and 27 billion USD debt payment are two different things...it does not mean 27 billion USD payment in two years, rather it mean the interest of say 6%-8%(depending on IMF terms) per year on debt of 27 billion USD is payable in two years...that comes to about 2.7 billion USD, in addition to the current interest.

i generally assume maturity implies the principal has to be repaid. you can always extend the duration of the loan by mutual agreement with the lender

Yep, that would be a start.

Also India has DBT now, so only ppl that actually need the subsidy receive it as much as possible (rather than supply side spend, which helps biggest consumers proportionally more, which are not really the poor).

Problem is analysing the data for that. Its not so simple regarding just export chain...there is also internal value addition and non-export jobs going on from imports.

Well the debt level % is not full story, have to look at its servicing/liquidity response w.r.t economy that generated it. Pakistan tax/revenue base is notoriously small....so its credit rating is commensurately pretty awful as well....and thus Pak debt burden is high taking that credit rating into account.
