ISLAMABAD: King of fruits, mango is one of the most popular and best-loved fruit worldwide. Hundreds of varieties of mangoes are known to exist in Pakistan.

According to a private news channal, mango is one of the tropical fruits which has experienced tremendous development in recent years.

Mango is considered as the fruit of excellence and thus has a prominent position among the commercial fruits grown in Pakistan.

The king of fruits is grown in Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan, are available in abundance from May to September.

The most popular commercial varieties - all different in colors and sizes, and each with a distinct flavor and taste - include Anwar Retol, Dusehri, Langra, Chaunsa, Sindhri, Saharni, Alphonso, Pairi, Fazli and Neelam.

Ripe fruits are mainly eaten fresh, but are also used in preparing squash, jam, other preserves and sometimes canned. Young mangoes are used in making mango chutneys and pickles.

Pakistan is the 5th largest producer and the 3rd largest exporter of mango in the world. Its soil and climatic conditions enable production and market supplies of good quality fresh mango over a period of about 5 to 6 months.

Mangoes contain sugar, an important source of vitamin A, and contain vitamins B and C. Small amounts of protein, iron, calcium and phosphorus are also present.

Love mangoes from back home. No country grows Mangoes like Pakistan does.

WHERE? WHERE? I've looked everywhere I can and I haven't found Pakistani mangoes yet!

Because the U.S is the 2nd country after South Korea in the world that banned Pakistani mangoes for decades. In your area you'll get those horrible Mexican mangoes. I guess its due to NAFTA and health agencies....

Finally change is on the rise:

Americans, after decades of being deprived of access to all 100% of nature's bounty, are now, finally, gaining the ability to buy any fruit produced anywhere in the world. Over the past few years, the US market has eagerly adopted Vietnamese dragonfruit, Brazilian açai and Thai mangosteen. The past few weeks have added yet another coveted fruit to the mix: Pakistani mangoes, which some claim are the sweetest, most delicious in the world.

as per the article i posted, they are granted access to US market

however they are cost prohibitive so they will foster mostly to niche market; those willing to pay a premium

US/FDA takes food safety and standards very seriously...as long as we ensure quality and as long as they are kept irradiated and kept cool, they wont go bad -- and less risk for losses to be incurred.

everyone gains.....the rural farmer in Pakistan, and the American consumer (and everyone in between)

You have missed a very famous type from Multan "Shan e Khuda". There are a lot of farms who only export their product.

Man you don't know your own town. If you can drive across the Potamac to Va I can tell you of a few places

Try:

You live in an area where you can just walk up to a 711. Even if you don't find any over there, the Pakistani people working there would help you point the way to the right place. Many of these places are run by folks who know only a little English, so go there with a lot of patience and even if you think you got order across right - REPEAT.

But the season is pretty much over. You can try your luck, at least the ones coming in to Dubai now are nothing like how they were 2 months ago.

Try the same mango type. I don't know about white chaunsa, but normal chaunsa is my favorite but it can't be preserved for long.

Thanks, Asim, I'll give the places you mention a try. (And maybe the 7-Elevens as well.)

I've had Pakistani mangoes when traveling abroad. Try carrying fruit in to the U.S. and Customs will surround you with dogs! But the Mexican ones are small and mushy while the Caribbean and Brazilian ones are bitter. I really want better...

Currently how many countries are importing mangoes from Pakistan. Can anyone provide a link, I tried to search but having a hard time finding a list of countries.

.
USA’s mango imports are the highest (43.2 percent) in the world. China, Hong Kong, Netherlands, UAE, France, Malaysia, UK and Saudi Arabia, Germany and Singapore are other major importers of the highly demanded fruit.

85 percent of Pakistani mangoes are shipped to Dubai and take their way into consumer markets of GCC countries, Iran and Middle East. The United States of America is the world’s largest importer of this Asian product. Pakistani mangoes have to compete with India at every front, from bulk orders to super markets racks.
