What's new

Pakistani K-8 fitted with heat seeking missile.

Well it is a good dummy then because I have never seen a locking pin on a dummy in my whole life. This may not be side winder but it surely is a working missile.

You see those two bomblets on multiple ejector rack? They are test bombs. The whole underwing configuration for this plane seem to be fro training purposes.

Older Sidewinders were used on F-6 (I think Mirage and F-7 too) by Pakistan as well. Then American weapons were not so restricted with software installation. Thats why you wont see newer AIM-9Ls except on PAF F-16.

Don't know but one thing is for sure why would there be a locking pin on a dummy missile and why would a dummy missile have modules? The if you look a the belly of K-8 there is a targeting pod there so definitely this jet is designed for air to air kill now looking at the question of what need it would serve the answer is that. Pakistan might use them against Indian attack helicopters. So it can be assumed at this point that modification is done to support army aviation for anti attack helicopter role and this is a smart cheap and effective way to deny air space to attack helicopters.

Pakistan already has an advance munition program and developing a short range heat seeking missile is not something that difficult counld be American or some Pakistani version. The image of missile is not that clear to conclude any thing need further details to be precise. Yes the jet has dummy bombs on inner racks but why would a dummy missile be modular?

Pictures from IDEAS 2014 showing these red dummys. The rollerons (tiny tabs at the trailing edge of rear stabs) are even missing (probably removed). I suspect these are old 9Ps that went over their shelf-life and were converted to dummies.

Also Pl-7/magic on K8.

I knew K-8 had ground attack capability but was not aware of air to air

I remember reading it before the kargil war. Maybe 98 or 99. Installing IR AAMs is nothing new to us, we've been doing it decades.

These are training rounds, with functioning seekers. They can simulate lock and launch for pilot training. And if needed you can swap them out with an actual live round and will work.
Usually Red or Blue.

If we can install Aim-9 on F-6 then K-8 shouldnt be a surprise. I think the lock is achieved by missile's own seeker so aircraft radar not needed.

K-8 has always been able to carry weapons, i remember back in 90s during the PPP government this jet demonstrated in parade and it was portrayed like some sort of fighter built by Pakistan. Loved the color scheme back than.
By the way what kind of radar does it carry to lock for A2A engagements? @Bilal Khan 777 Sir

It does not have radar. GCI is used.

It's the difference in the mindsets....

PAF has taken IAF way too seriously; whereas, IAF has taken PAF way too lightly.....

Muslims in (current) Pak didn't want to live a single second under the Hindu Raj; whereas, the Hindus in India didn't mind to live a thousand years under the Muslim Sultans....

And arabs, and turks, and persians, and scythians, and greeks before that...
They only progress as a "civilized-nation" under external rule. Whenever they get to rule themselves they end up being perverts and rapists and what not...
