JEDDAH: Several companies from Pakistan, specialized in the information technology sector, showcased their products and services at an exhibition in Jeddah on Sunday.

PITEX Jeddah 2011 was held at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

“Saudi Arabia is considered an attractive market for Pakistani products and services,” said the consul general of Pakistan, Abdul Salek Khan.

Addressing the opening ceremony, he said Pakistan’s petrochemical industry could serve as a great trade opportunity to Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan also provides excellent investment and business consultancy services, he said.

The chief guest was Mazen Batterjee, deputy chairman of JCCI.

He inaugurated the exhibition, along with the consul general and Sarfraz Ahmad, Minister Commercial.

The consul general stressed the need for sustained interaction to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

Khan thanked the JCCI for hosting and promoting PITEX Jeddah 2011, where Pakistani companies displayed their services in the field of software and information technology.

“We need to go a long way to explore the ways and means to increase economic and commercial cooperation between the people of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan which can complement each other and lead to enhanced trade in goods and service,” said the consul general.

He voiced hope the successful conclusion of the exhibition would lead to more trade between the two states.

Batterjee said the show would help strengthen the existing relations between the people and governments of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

He highlighted the tremendous progress made in the Kingdom, which offers excellent opportunities to all trade sectors, with a special focus on IT development.

He also urged the participants to take advantage of soft loans provided by the Islamic Development Bank to enhance trade within the OIC.

Ten Pakistani companies put up catalogs, brochures and other publicity material of their products and services.

Saudi businessmen showed keen interest in them.

what are the major IT companies of Pakistan??

Pakistani IT companies due to closer cultural integration with Arab world can deliver much more efficiently. Also while India is all hyped about IT, most of it is just government sponsored propaganda. The actual quality of IT services in india is really poor because the people working are paid peanuts to the turn over rate is high.

Currently, the major developed of saudi E-government services is a Pakistan company after Wipro failed to deliver on time as was forced to hand over operations to a Saudi company and exit the market. Now it only exist as a JV with a Saudi company being a majority share holder.

are you freaking kidding me ? Indian IT is government propaganda lol Please stop smoking whatever you are. Wipro did not provide any services to the Saudi Government and does not deal in such commodities so thats a lie from you as usual. Do you have any idea where the Indian IT industry stands in the world today ? Please dont be this obsessed with India, Indian IT is based of solid talent that is pumped out every year by the worlds best institutions something that Pakistan seriously lacks so competition with India is non-existent. Its good that the Pakistani IT industry is getting some focus but you do have to go on trolling spree and start bringing India into this argument. And they say Indians are obsessed with Pakistan.

India's IT sector is very very good, they have a huge presence inside the US, as well as having almost everything in America outsourced to Hyderabad & Bangalore; & other cities of South India. While this news is great for Pakistan, & Pakistan is making great strides, India has done a remarkable job, & they deserve plaudits for that. Pakistan needs to forge its own path, & what is good for it. I still don't think it is Pakistan that is obsessed with India, & India deserves the plaudits it is getting for its IT services.

Normal drivel and anti India messages from him as usual.

He will get a oppurtunity to bash Reliance and hype up a Pakistani firm if he could. lol

what a lie, where are you getting all this rubbish from ? Do you know what IBM's Watson was worked upon in India also. Your lies so stupid really. Please stop posting junk, none of what you posted is true.

Do you know the difference between infrastructure and services, Wipro does not deal in the kind of services that the Pakistani firm won, so I dont know what rubbish you are talking about again. Wipro won the bid for the infrastructure component and that deal is still very much alive.

I deal almost on a daily basis with Bangalore so please dont tell me what is good and what is bad. Dont post junk if you dont even know the difference between core IT terms. Peoplesoft collapsed ??????? lol are you drunk ? seriously stop talking, your making a joke out of yourself.

IBM, DELL, PWC, Sunlife, GM, Ford, TD, etc etc are all expanding operations in India and have had bumper quarters on the back of the savings and excellent quality they get from India, let me know when IBM plans to open a R & D center in Pakistan because that will never happen.

Everything you posted is pure garbage and lies, please stop with your obsession with India and wasting time making up junk.

India is atleast 20-30 ahead of Pakistan in terms of IT, the facts are there, you just dont want to see them.

atleast someone is sane here. Good post.
