Muhammad is in Islamabad and based in Pakistan tells about the worst experience while working in UAE as an expatriate and held for weeks even without committing anything wrong.
“They kept me inside narrow confinement, unclothed me and forced me to perform sexual acts,” told Pakistani technology consultant Muhammad Saad in the ‘Channel The Rage,’ episode in conversation with the activist, and columnist CJ Werlemen.
Saad described his ordeal in UAE as: “My name is Saad and I am Pakistani national and work as a consultant for Price Order House Coopers in Pakistan before joining this Indian Consultancy Firm Tech Mahindra as a senior consultant for consultancy project work at Abu Dhabi Port in UAE.”
All was fine till the MBA scholarship opportunity that was offered to me based on the academic and consultancy experience that Saad does have. As soon as he opted to pursue the academic opportunity he was offered with he began receiving threats from the intelligence officials to decline the offer or else face the consequences and they often started doing severe workplace harassment.
The death threats were issued by the Emirate intelligence officials who forced him to give up the academic opportunity. Saad attributed the reason might be the project he was working on the state level developmental project at the United Arab Emirates responsible for his ordeal. The project that he was doing in Tech Mahindra was the biggest project in the whole GCC Gulf countries corporation.
During his travel journey from Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia by the road, he was escorted by a dozen officials despite having his documents examined. He was asked to pay off some fine by going to the nearby police station despite having a legitimate visit visa stamped by the concerned officials.
He was neither shown any arrest warrants nor told any reason about his arbitrary arrest and detained overnight in a bordering area and was stripped off from any sort of communication and was also denied any consular access.
Saad repeatedly asked from the officials about his sudden sort of arrest and devoiding him of all communication means but was not given any response. They used to transfer him in a camouflaged way without letting him know about the exact location.
“I was first transferred to Abu Dhabi Port Prisoner Facility. I was kept in Abu Dhabi remote detention facility without any charge leveled or intimated to me,” Saad said in conversation with renowned journalist CJ Werlemen.
He also alleged to have been psychologically as well as sexually harassed by the security officials whilst in the first week of detention at the remote detention facility. “They forced me to perform the sexual acts and attempted to rape me,” Saad alleged.
After the first seven days of detention, he was moved to a proper deportation facility (Shahama Abu Dhabi Deportation Facility) where he came to know that he was on the deportation list and going to be deported back to the country of his origin.
The Emirati officials fabricated a travel ban on me to hide all that was going under the carpet for which they subjected me to detention and issued death warnings as well, he further stated adding that he was also detained for about 13 days at the deportation facility and brutally tortured by the local police and by the security officials.
Saad further told CJ: “There were actually a number of police officials who brutally tortured me and beaten me and the intensity of torture made me think that I was going to lose my hearing, my eye side or going to lose myself”.
“They used to punch and slap on my face turn by turn likewise they were in competition with one another who exactly going to punch harder. I got traumatic. They used to subject me on the worst ever torture that I have never heard of,” he continued.
The Pakistani officials did not cooperate with me in highlighting the ordeal and worst torture inflicted against me while the international media and international authorities highlighted my case.
An NGO based in the UK highlighted the matter, they highlighted the victimization that I endured and I appealed before the UN High Commissioner Office of Human Rights to take action against the UAE government in a case of human degrading treatment, the orchestrating crime, and the abhorrent maltreatment, molestation, and abuses I endured and suffered, he uttered.
