d. IRST (Infra Red Search Track)

for the 51 Cobras of PA.

I don't think he said that, routine maintenance and service is a separate thing and have to be carried out on regular basis, we handle that at our bases. Engine overhauling is a separate thing and have to be done after a decided number of flying hours.

The facility at Kamra was built for the purpose of engine overhaul and repairs of these engines.

NOT specifically for Cobras. We do however have an overhauling setup at army aviation base Rawalpindi (that would be Qasim Base/Dhamial Camp) for our Mi17 fleet. Later expanded to cover Bell 412 and now the cobras as well as being reported.

Yes some time back PAA had no night combat capability for the Cobra's, This was refused by US so Pakistan Army went to PAC and they said they have the capability to upgrade these helicopters. That was done without the permission of USA and at that time they did raise issues

Don’t know what you are refereeing to. Our cobra fleet was C-NITE and that was not something that was without US approval or by PAC behind closed doors. You have gotten this wrong or confused with something else sir.

Not agreed, they produce one of the best and reliable defense weapons and equipments. You may say their foreign policy kills the efficiency and reliability of their weapons since customers / users not sure if in future they receive upgrades and spares.

Yes if u don't have spares in war time they are as bad as ur enemy so why rely on thing which u can't maintain

There are techs on this aircraft which still need looking at by the Chinese. I am not undermining them but it's good to have comparisons. Also we have the capability like Iran to overhaul any US made equipment and china to reengineer it.

And this is why Americans are not keen to sell us their hardware any more. We want to show it to the Chinese.

I don't think the U.S. would sell NATOs Secrets to NATO enemies.
Most countries spy on neighbours.

I certainly trust Pakistan to sell of any secrets they can get their hads on,
or maybe commenters here are not representative.

An engineer can't just sit idle and look at the equipment as it is crumbling away. He* has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) to open it up, scrutinize it, find the complex intra and inter systems functionalities, trouble shoot to find the faulty part, and fix it using all the innovative ways available to him. This is the first step. The next step is to get into a fanatic mode to find how to improve it by integrating more functionalities, components etc. using hardware & software. And, the list goes on. At some point of time the equipment becomes his own baby. If an engineer doesn't possess this mindset, IMHO, he should have chosen the business school at the first place..

not a good idea to go with cobra deal, what if have issue procuring further parts for it in the furure?
why spend a billion dollars on cobra. do you think no other country develops gunships. i am pretty sure Chinese and russians are not that bad that they cannnot fill in the gap to counter militants

Cobra helicopter rebuild factory in pakistan is our need.
Iran has done the same.
Start from rebuilding then we will build our own Attack helicopter.

Open Market will aupport us to rebuild.
