Pakistani co wins First Tannery in South East Asia award

KARACHI: A Pakistani company has won the award for First Tannery in South East Asia by maintaining international standards at Asian Pacific Leather Fair (APLF) in Hong Kong.
Eleven top tanneries participated in the competition organised by World Leather in collaboration with International Council of Tanners and the trophy was won by one of the Pakistani firms, participating in Material, Manufacturing and Technology (MM&T) section under the aegis of Pakistan Pavilion in APLF being held from March 25-27, 2013.
The judges panel of the competition keeping in view its innovation, quality control and well-supervised management, compliance with the environmental rules and regulations up to the international standards and other areas of the tannery has declared the First Tannery award.
Talking to Daily Times from Hong Kong Agha Saiddain said, it was certainly an honour for Pakistan that one of the exhibitors of Pakistan Pavilion has won the trophy.
The official announcement was made in a separate function and a Trophy of First Tannery in South East Asia was handed over to Agha Saiddain of Royal Leather Industries Limited Pakistan.
Saiddain said outcome of Pakistans participation in this event was so far very encouraging, customers, visitors and foreign buyers were visiting in a large number and it was expected to conclude enormous business during the fair, which would certainly cause to earn precious foreign exchange for the country.
The cooperation and assistance of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan as well as the Consulate General of Pakistan, Hong Kong is certainly laudable and encouraging to make this the biggest participation of Pakistan in a real sense for achieving the desired objectives of participation in this mega event for Pakistan Leather Industry.
Units of Pakistan Tanners Association congratulated Saiddain for receiving such a prestigious honour for the country.
Dr Ahmad Balal also felicitated Saiddian on this achievement. The ceremony was attended by a large number of exhibitors and member participants of Pakistan Pavilion and representative of print and electronic media of Hong Kong.
APLF Limited Hong Kong Managing Director Michael Duck was also present on the occasion.
APLF-MM&T is the annual premier event for the global leather industry, based in Hong Kong and the fair serves as the most important international hub for the leather-related business and a must-attend buying platform for fashion professionals.
APLF-MM&T was first established in 1984 and has since gained a reputation of offering high-quality, innovative products and fashion-forward trends.
The event covers raw hides and skins, semi finished and finished leather, exotic leather and premium materials, natural and synthetic materials, process chemicals and dyes, tanning and shoe machinery, components and accessories, equipment and tools, lab testing and other services.
