What's new

Pakistani bookseller built one of the largest book stores in World.....!

My interest is in Islamic books mostly would love to visit this shop

you have such a one-track mind. :(

The reading habit has become a thing of the past unfortunately, There used to be a store in Pune called Mannys which had a great collection but it closed. Another was the western book deppo in sadar nagpur.
I bought a lot of my collection from these guys. Now a days its all about ebooks. :(

people constantly on the cell phone and facebook has reduced book reading because for most people, those two things reduces patience and the cell phone especially destroys taste... even if we speak of ebooks, most people read quite frivolous ones.

.
This Saeed Book Bank is actually 2nd or 3rd largest bookstore in Asia and largest in South Asia....and i live on the walking distance from it but have never gone there all my life.

Not surprising in the least. Bookstores are a pleasure to visit no matter their size. The smell of books and the quaint surprises that await you are worth your time and money. Screens can never match the magic of a book.

20 volumes weigh what, 15+ kilos??

to be honest, only twice i think i have flicked through a encyclopedia. :D

but what separates me from most of the whatsapp generation is that i have read all of the "dune" series of books... a colleague had the first three parts combined into one thick book called "the great dune triology" and it took me maybe one-and-half or two months to go through it... the language is simple, natural, sophisticated and the story though science fiction, has a natural and deep understanding of human politics, emotions, social structures, love, behavior, passions.

for a month after i read that book, i was in the buzz of it.

and then slowly i read the other books in the series, by frank herbert himself ( three more ) and then the continuation taken up by his son and a collaborator.

a unique work of fiction the dune series... and it takes a long time to go through the series.

Good for you , I started collecting when i was 7, i have now got close to 22k books. :)
Three rooms in my home are full of books, luckily my daughter has the same fascination in books. my son on the other hand does not.:(
Every time i travel, which is quiet often , i buy books at airports or in a second hand shop in some city . Found Khan market in Delhi to be the best. even Bangalore has some great book shops.
