প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, মরুভূমি একটা দেশ ছিল পাকিস্তান অথচ তারা আমাদের সংস্কৃতির ওপর নির্ভর করে চলতো। এখান থেকে তারা নানাভাবে আয় করতো। তাদের ইন্ডাস্ট্রিও পূর্ব পাকিস্তান (বর্তমানের বাংলাদেশের) ওপর নির্ভরশীল। ১৯৫৪ সালে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাংলা চলচ্চিত্রের উন্নয়নের জন্য তেজগাঁও শিল্প এলাকায় চলচ্চিত্র উন্নয়ন করপোরেশন গড়ে তোলার জন্য জায়গা বরাদ্দ করেন।
শেখ হাসিনা বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধু যখন একটি যুদ্ধ বিধ্বস্ত দেশ গড়ে তোলার চেষ্টা করছিলেন, তখন তিনি সমানভাবে এদেশের শিল্প সংস্কৃতিকেও পুননির্মাণের উদ্যোগ নিয়েছিলেন। তিনি সিনেমাকে ভুলে যান নি। সিনেমার উন্নয়নের বিএফডিসি গড়ে তোলেন। সেন্সর নীতিমালা তৈরি কিরেন। বাংলাদেশের চলচ্চিত্র সংশ্লিষ্টদের বিদেশে পাঠান চলচ্চিত্র সম্পর্কে সাম্যক জ্ঞান লাভের জন্য। তিনি চেয়েছেন এদেশে ভালো সিনেমা হোক।
