ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday cautioned Afghanistan not to level charges which it could not prove and called the attempt to murder the Afghan intelligence chief, Asadullah Khalid, a criminal act.
Before levelling charges the Afghan government would do well if they shared information or evidence with the Government of Pakistan that they might have with regard to the cowardly attack on the head of NDS. They would also do well by ordering an investigation into any lapses in the security arrangements around the NDS chief, a spokesman at the Foreign Office said in a statement shortly after President Hamid Karzai made allegations that the attackers came from Quetta in Pakistan.
Media reports from Kabul quoted Karzai as saying: Apparently the Taliban claimed responsibility like many other attacks but such a complicated attack and a bomb hidden inside his body, this is not Taliban work.
He said he would take up this matter with Pakistan in the forthcoming meeting in Turkey, adding: Its a completely professional (job). . . Taliban cannot do that and there are bigger and professional hands involved in it.
He said Pakistan should give accurate information and cooperate seriously.
The spokesman, while trying to reassure Kabul, said: On its part the Government of Pakistan is ready to assist any investigation of this criminal act.
