WASHINGTON: According to the Spokesperson of the United States Department of State, Mark Toner, Pakistan and USA's ties were strong and not at a low point.
Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, Toner said that US Secretary of State John Kerry not visiting Pakistan during his recent tour of Asia, should not be tied to the relationship that USA enjoys with Pakistan. John Kerry had visited Middle East countries and Asian countries most recently, which also included India.
"John Kerry's official visit to India was to accomplish strategic and business objectives," he said during the press briefing.
Mark Toner said that before this, John Kerry had visited Pakistan and he frequently established contact with officials in Pakistan. He also said that USA was trying to press Pakistan on going after all militant groups.
"We want Pakistan to take action against those terrorist groups who spread fear and terror in its neighbouring countries," said Toner.
On the second day of his visit to India, Kerry had urged Pakistan to do more and act against militants that were hiding in the country.
"It is clear that Pakistan has work to do in order to push harder against its indigenous groups that are engaged in extremist activities," he had said. "In fairness, the Pakistanis have suffered greatly from terrorism in their own country. All of us need to be supportive and also understanding of how difficult it is to take it on step by step."
