Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced provisions to give citizenship to Bangladeshi immigrants living in the country. According to local news website Business Recorder, Imran Khan made the announcement to give citizenship to Bangladeshi immigrants during his maiden visit to Karachi after taking oath to office.

According to the report, the Bangladeshi refugees who were born in Pakistan will get the citizenship of the country. He also announced the same provisions for Afghan refugees. He said that soon eligible immigrants will be provided with passport and identification documents.

Pak media report says that the country is home to over 20 lakh Bangladeshi and Afghani refugees. Several people had migrated to Pakistan from Bangladesh during the 1971 war, when Bangladesh was created, while Afghanis mostly migrated during the post 9/11 battle between the United States and Taliban.

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for local government Saeed Ghani on Sunday expressed his reservations over Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement on giving nationality to the children of Afghan and Bengali immigrants born in Pakistan.

The premier in his address at the Diamer Bhasha fundraising event at the Sindh Governor House announced to give citizenship to the children of Afghan and Bengali immigrants in view of providing them employment opportunities.

The Sindh minister said that the prime minister should open the doors of his Bani Gala residence for the Bengali and Afghan immigrants if he has got concerns for them.

Ghani criticised the premier for not speaking against the idea of construction of Kalabagh Dam in his address at the event, adding that the premier’s plan of introducing a masterplan for the metropolis is a blatant violation of the 18th amendment.

He said that the premier’s concerns for the solid waste disposal is completely unfounded as the Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in his recent visit to Karachi expressed satisfaction over the provincial government’s performance.

The Sindh minister said that the PM Khan should rather worry about the status of cleanliness in Peshawar rather than Karachi.

Folks who have lived in Pakistan for more than 30 years, who have no other place they have known except pakistan and all Pakistani small minds are thinking about not giving nationality to them. You guys are worse than what trump is doing to kids who are protected under DACA. even kids born in US to illegals or visiting folks automatically become US citizens and Pakistanis are against it. No humanity and only seeing through the eyes of their hatred for Afghans. For a second think about absorbing these folks in your country and give them opportunity than for them to hide behind crime.

You don't need to blow it out of proportion. It is limited to the people who have been born in Pakistan and have been living here for decades...Many of them have no other nationality, they don't know any other country or culture.
