ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said the government was committed to enhancing defence production in the country and export surplus quantity to help them meet their needs.

He said this while addressing a two-day seminar on Public-Private Partnership in defence production and export on Wednesday.

He added that the purpose of the seminar was to provide a platform for entrepreneurs, financial experts, engineers, policymakers and academics to share views and make recommendations for developing a draft policy framework for promoting public private partnership in the defence industry and export of Pakistani equipment.

He also commended the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) and Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS), Islamabad, for organising the first national level seminar on the subject. “The seminar was organised on the direction of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and it was his vision to re-structure the whole domain of defence productions by enhancing public-private partnership,” said Hussain.

“It is very satisfying to note that representatives from private and public defence industry, research organisations, universities and government departments are participating in the seminar,” said the minister, adding that the recommendations will be compiled in the seminar report before a defence production and export policy is developed.

“The seminar will keep in view the long term defence needs of Pakistan as well as needs of the states to which we would like to export our defence equipment. A comprehensive defence production and export policy framework will hopefully help enhance indigenous defence equipment’s production and export,” the minister remarked.

. . .
the only industry which should be go bankrupt and stop production in whole world

.
Despite the progress made by the local defence industry in meeting the needs of the armed forces, the defence industry has not achieved much success in finding buyers for its products in the international market.

selling defense products in the international market is not an easy task a lot of buttons needs pushing, favors are returned...you rub my back then i rub your belly, beside the old boys who have penetrated the market wont let it go so easily. First thing comes first is to produce things your armed forces need and save on imports.

.
Pakistan defence industries are a complete failure !! Producing basic stuff and that also sub standard is the order of the day.
I strongly suggest people reading book by Dr. Ayesha siddiqa (Pakistan arms purchases 1988-99). its an eye opener how all these Govt run factory's are doing.

.
Pakistan have lot of talent but no such organizations available to promote that talen or give them free hand and excess to labs for further experiments and development of new types of machines, weapons, etc.

These boys are useless.
Who are you referring too?

There is great potential for Pakistan in this market since Pakistan has developed, due to our strategic needs, a large number of defence production organisation in the public sector. However, there are a lot of missing links that make the project costs go up and cause delays and uncertainties. The sector to be viable needs to be competitive in the international market. The organisations are heavily funded and subsidised by govt. If they really want to be successful, they should try to be profit earning and successful and independent organisations like the rest of the world. That cannot happen overnight but the direction should be right. Quality of product and service will win the hearts of the customers world over.

. . .
And thats why I cannot emphasize enough why the defence industry needs to cooperate with foregin companies(Turkey, China,Russia, malaysia, south Korea etc.) to get fresh eyes and ideas on how to make weapons with better and higher quality and quantity.....
