Chinese skilled unemployment is skyrocketing. Chinese are desperate to keep their skilled industries. While in theory anything is doable ask yourself if a country that would not lend Pakistan 1$billion when Pakistan was in EXTREME difficulty begging daily for the past year for that billion, daily expecting to default, would invest $20-40 building a Fab in Pakistan
Skilled unemployment is rising b/c 1) WAGES are rising & therefore some Chinese companies are moving some of their operations abroad. 2) there are restrictions on Chinese exports so offshoring is a way to avoid them.
They’re not “desperate” to keep jobs that they wouldn’t even be able to create in the 1st place.
Pakistan is a more attractive option than say Vietnam due to politics. The current instability is temporary & they can also get a better deal due to it.
FFS, did you even bother to read the article? Where does it say they’re looking to invest 20-40 billion into building a FAB? More likely, they’ll start with simpler processes such as assembly &/or testing. India has failed b/c it’s trying to jump the value chain. Pakistan will fail as well if it tries to do the same.
Again, all this assumes this isn’t fake news but it’s possible for Pakistan to do that much if there’s political will.
