Pakistan conducted a successful test fire of the Hatf IX (NASR) missile on Tuesday, Express News reported.

The missile has a range of 60 kilometers and can carry any type of warhead.

Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Pervez Kayani was present at the test fire, which was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Pakistan had conducted a successful test fire of Hatf IX on February 11 this year, according to the ISPR.

The test fire in February was conducted with successive launches of two missiles from a state of the art multi-tube launcher.

NASR, with an in-flight manoeuvre capability can carry nuclear warheads of appropriate yield, with high accuracy, said the ISPR’s press release.

NASR has also been specially designed to defeat all known Anti-Tactical Missile Defence Systems.

The first successful test of the short range surface to surface multi tube ballistic missile Hatf IX was conducted in April 2011.

WAO.. if the flags were 3 meters high, Nasr hit within 0.6m of the flag. AMAIZING isin't it. It is actually hitting the bulls eye. For a missile that carries nuclear weapon, this accuracy is actually an taunt at nuclear warhead. But Bravo to the scientists and congratulations to the development team, they have eliminated a threat effectively.

Wow...please do enlighten me...how does this missile differ from babur in terms of its use? I mean why develop this missile when we could achieve the same thing with cruise missile? Babur can also be used to stop advancing armour with the right warhead..why not just produce more baburs?

I think it is a hybrid between rocket artillery and cruise missile. Cheaper than a CM, but yet as precise due to a guidance system. In terms of cost, these should be arranged in the order of increasing cost as:
rocket artillery << tactical nuke missile << Cruise missile

One word - cost .

One word - cost .

Few reasons together.
  • This missile doesn't leave atmosphere during entire course of flight. Such a missile is harder to detect and hence harder to counter by enemy defense system.
  • Another important aspect is that it is fairly light and can be carried around with high agility which is a core requirement to counter scrambling and continuously changing mechanized divisions.
  • Plus you can launch 4 low-yield nuclear weapons upon enemy, neutralizing the threat without polluting battle-front for your own advancement.
  • Finally, India had a dream of fighting a battle with Pakistan in which it would spirit the country into two halves - and this missile is their strategy-shattering.
  • It is highly accurate and even without nuclear weapons, it can hit the enemy on its nose.
  • And finally.. :pakistan:
