Pakistan sporting arms standard to be improved

12/02/2009

Pakistan Hunting and Sporting Development Company (PHSADC) has planned a number of activities to harness the national potential in the field of hunting and sporting arms by improving the skill of artisans associated with the profession.

The company has planned holding consultations with stakeholders in different cities of the country with the objective of taking them on board and apprising them about the modern technique for improving the standard of the products besides opening ways for export of the small arms, observed Nauman Wazir, Chairman of the company.

Interesting..

But two things seem to come in this.
1. What is the fundamental difference between a high grade sporting/hunting rifle vs a medium grade sniper rifle?

2. Paragraph 1 seems to be in conflict with the intent of paragraph 2.

It also smacks of getting sporting and hunting enthusiasts into a low grade calibre of civilian sniper. But that could be just the way the article was written. A case of what was said vs what the journalist wrote.

Missed the banana again..

Pakistan Must increase the standard and quality of these products in Order to Export them and Earn some Valuable Foreign Exchange.

That I understand. It also relates well with the intent of the second paragraph. But this did not make sense when reading the first paragraph as that implied instruction in the art more than the actual weapon improvement intent.

This could just be a bad case of poor translation though.

Locally made 7mm Bolt-action Rifle. Got a scope for it last year and now it's a fully functional sniper rifle.

The best part is, that the rifle is over 40 years old and it still fires like a pro. Back then, it was not more than 50 bucks. Don't know what the price might be today since these are very hard to get now.

Here's a picture.

I would not disagree that a good hunting/sporting rifle can be easily made into a medium grade sniper rifle. That was to some extent my concern with eth first paragraph of the article. The implication was to ‘train’ civilians into a second role sniper.

As for conversions I had many years ago a good long barrel .303 service rifle and it was on bull at 500 m so adding a scope would have given me a good quality sniper rifle. But my eyes now see life differently so it’s a dead topic. The rifle was for some strange reason was slightly longer in barrel length than most standard service .303s.
