Nothing against Yoga, but this coming from an extremist politician like Modi makes the intentions suspicious.

We all know he is on a specific agenda, so why should we give him any support?

We humans all can meditate in ways that suit us and we can do it any day.

There are ways in Islam, Budhism etc for that as well.

But sorry, no support to extremist Modi on that one.

Let me be frank....
Not everyone needs to lift weight, since our body isnt made for it...not all of us are Pehalwans or intend to be sumos so why should one be lifting weights???
I seriously think that you torture yourself by sweating it in the gym (something that I tell my hubby too). I'm sure you would have noticed that though you're tired after a game of soccer, your brain is jubilant, alert and de-stressed, but the same is not true for Gym; Gym sessions are torturous to say the least.
Let me tell you one more thing about gyms, although gym gives you enough muscles and strength, it reduces your flexibility and your "functional strength". you know what I mean?
Another thing that i have learnt is not to over do it. I dont want to end up looking manly after lifting weights. Jogging helps me remain slender, I also like Russian crunches.

Btw I dont understand the correlation between lifting weights and osteoporosis?
The bone density reduces with age, vitamin D and a good diet can help you prevent it, but since osteoporosis is genetic there's not much you can do to prevent it.

Yoga on the other hand is about controlling your breath as you exercise, it helps you concentrate and puts your brain at peace. The best thing that you will notice about yourself after doing Yoga is that you start looking more pleasant (somebody who smiles more) and your skin begins to glow.

On the contrary lifting weights is not for pehalwans or sumos alone and no you're not going to get big if you lift weights. And yes it builds both functional strength and flexibility provided that you don't do 10 isolation exercises for your chest, traps or any other single muscle group; do deadlifts, squats, overhead presses and weighted pullups - It doesn't get anymore functional than that.

Have you ever wondered why those Olympic lifters who're doing Power Cleans look neither big nor bloated and yet have tons of functional strength - Its because they're doing the right kind of exercises. Or how Olympic sprinters do all of those functional exercises in the gym and still don't look bloated but extremely chiseled.

If you're going to go to the gym and instead of doing compound exercises with free-weights are going to do bodybuilding exercises you're not going build any functional strength and yes you're going to reduce your flexibility.

Lifting weights means that you're progressively increasing resistance that your body is subjected to, including your bones. The bones compensate for that by getting denser....as you age you loose bone density and women loose it more quickly and much more than men. Progressive resistance training (like strength training using weights) ensures that you either don't loose bone density at an accelerated rate or you've already got enough of it to compensate for the loss or both of them at once.

P.S Cardio is an absolute waste of time.....build muscle - you won't get big....you don't have the testosterone thats needed to get big - because muscle burns calories even in rest phase.

I take yoga as exercise and promote it further as it is good for health. Religious linkage is not and will not be with yoga.
yoga is part of Hinduism and is very ancient and spiritual practice though one is not required to be a Hindu to practice yoga. If you take spiritual aspect of namaz and fasting out of it then what it will remain?
