ISLAMABAD: The government has sent a relief flight to Colombo containing 25 metric tonnes of rice, to help Sri Lanka mitigate the effects of a severe drought afflicting the country.

The Pakistan High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Major General (retd) Syed Shakeel Hussain handed over the relief consignment to Sri Lankan authorities at Bandaranaike International Airport, a press release stated on Thursday.

On the occasion, the high commissioner reiterated the resolve of the Pakistani people and government to stand by the people of Sri Lanka.

He further stated that Pakistan would spare no efforts to carry out assistance and help of their Sri Lankan brethren.

Both countries have always reciprocated in the same manner at the time of need since the inception of their diplomatic relations, he further added.

Charity starts from home. When our own people are suffering especially in sindh WTH are we giving to others

Countries usually get paid for the shipments by the UN's various agencies.

It's the one reason Pakistan is the largest contributor of wheat a couple years ago the article came out.

Its not aid rather a small Gift for brothers in distress.

There is no scarcity of food as government owned Godons both in Punjab and Sindh are full with likes of Rice and Wheat but its matter of will by the political set up and mindset. Below is a classic example from 2010 of how serious are the concerned people out there.

And this is state of affairs in private sector which I am sure hasnt changed even a bit:

We can never forget the support we had from Srilanka during 1971 war. They stood with us against India which was way too big for them. After that Srilanka went through hell. India financed tamil tigers to disrupt the peace in Srilanka. Now things are a lot better. Remember there cricket team visited us when all other teams had refused. It was for a reason, sir. They were even attacked by RAW during their visit.
