What's new

Pakistan secures $1.7 Billion debt relief agreement with France.

Lol, merci beaucoup la France.

Time and again, we are shown our aukat. First with Saudi and GCC and KL conference, then again by Saudi after SMQ's statements and recent steps they took withdraw financial support, and now far from the PM's broadsides on twitter against France and Pakistanis vowing a boycott of France, we're graciously accepting both their aid and their debt relief.

This should make it clear, power projection and diplomatic hardball is something to be played when you're not living off the lines of credit supplied by strangers.
Agree overall - but our opposition has not been with France as a state but Macron’s statements personally. Those had to be condemned at least. GCC and Gulf do just mafia style blackmailing and I expect the worst from them than any country from the Western block. I still can’t unsee the medals they awarded Modi, right after his clampdown of basic freedoms and illegal status changes in IOK.

. . . .
We should consider ourselves lucky. government could have erected a macron statue in Islamabad and there ain't a damn thing citizens could do

or Macron's cartoon with his grandma wife feeding him before he heads for office in the morning.

These negotiations were at the peak while the Muslim controversy was at the peak.

There's not a damn thing you can do about Sadiq and Ameen.

The thing is that Pakistani diaspora already go out of their way to supply much needed foreign exchange and remittances to the state of Pakistan. I know how much I send back home every month to support family. These amounts annualized are far more than what the PM or his advisors expected would be sufficient if every expat were to make a one-time payment of in service of the country. The point being, this is not the way to save the country.

The government has taken quite a few positive but unpopular steps to correct trade imbalances and help get us some more financial stability. We need that stability to persist, and then balance it with as much sustainable economic growth as we can manage.

If say 10 years from now, we have a stable political system with a credible government that foreigners don't view with some trust, as well as a system in which investors can have certainty, better established rule of law, and slow but sustainable growth... then we would need no foreign loans, any aid we would get would be nice to have, but not necessary. Only then you can take principled stances on matters when you feel compelled to.

Ever wonder sir why we never achieved that position and have been in a loop, going in circles, because the system we currently have in Pakistan will never achieve that. If we look at what has been happening in our entire history, there was one part of the system consisting of dynasties whom whenever got the chance tried to run the country to the ground followed by intervention by the state to save Pakistan from the brink of collapse. It is not designed to achieve that objective.

It happened in 1999 when the country was at the brink of economic collapse, than state took control, when stabilization happened than again came the other part of the system in 2008 with ruthless abuse of Pakistan till 2018, again Pakistan was at the brink of default. This is not a hypothesis but a fact backed by numbers.

This is the first time this system of duo has been broken by a 3rd party (neither the state nor the dynasties), who is willing to risk it's political capital to take the necessary steps.

How long will this cycle continue. There are only a hand full of solutions, first is the current setup continues, 2nd is this phase is followed by state intervention to capitalize on the gains and the last is a hybrid system is enacted for next 10 years by breaking down these dynasties. It is a given we will see one of following outcomes.

There is no other way to break free of this cycle otherwise years will pass and we will be discussing the same topics CAD, loans, economic crisis etc etc.

Turkey became what it is today under Erdogan, Malaysia got where it is today by Mahatir, China got where it is today by CCP. We need to understand when it comes to democracy there is a fundamental difference of psyche between the western people and us, dynastic parties are a testament to it.

Exactly my observation as well. I will choose this hybrid system anytime instead of dynasties

As someone rightly said above, this is our auqaat (no better English word). We can talk and then walk it only if we are financially independent. This should be our priority. Like every human being, we want to live with dignity but you cant have dignity if you are not independent.

So then Caracal Helicopter should be preferred in the bidding process for Navy. Indonesia Aerospace also produce part of the helicopter

you dont need to worry about us. We will be out of the mess. Worry about yourself. Your fragile country was held by veneer of secularism which is fast thinning off due to extremist policies of your nationalistic government. We are financial mess but our fundamentals are strong. We dont have to adopt some artificial and foreign identity. Islam binds all our regions and sub nationalities as one nation.

Change the system into Presidential system and get direct Presidential election. Even local election should also be a direct election as well with governor, major are elected directly, not only parliament members.

This will make political parties try to find the best and popular person among the people and must compromise their oligarch behavior. And then set up Independent Anti Corruption Body and Special Anti Corruption Court with credible judges (civil society will have a say on who should be a judge).

In Indonesia we also can elect Governor from Independence candidate and even win very importance province like West Java. Ridwan Kamil from Independence candidate (West Java Governor) is one of our potential President for 2024 election
