DOHA: Lt. General Asad Durrani (retd), who served as the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as director-general from 1990-1992, has told Al Jazeera that Pakistan probably knew about al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden’s whereabouts leading up to his capture in Abbotabbad in May 2011.

“I cannot say exactly what happened but my assessment […] was it is quite possible that they [the ISI] did not know but it was more probable that they did. And the idea was that at the right time, his location would be revealed,” Durrani said.

Durrani implied that Pakistan would have only exchanged knowledge of his location in a quid pro quo deal.

“The right time would have been, when you can get the necessary quid pro quo – if you have someone like Osama bin Laden, you are not going to simply hand him over to the United States,” he said.

When asked if the house that Bin Laden was residing in was protected by the ISI, Durrani said: “If ISI was doing that, then I would say they were doing a good job. And if they revealed his location, they again probably did what was required to be done.”

Officially, the ISI claimed that they did not harbor Bin Laden and played no part in the 2011 raid. Nonetheless, many have questioned how the al Qaeda chief could have avoided the intelligence agency till the years to his discovery.

The Abbottabad Commission, set up by the government to investigate the raid, charged the military and the government with “gross incompetence” leading to “collective failures” that allowed Bin Laden to reside in Pakistan unnoticed. “The admission of incompetence was probably done on political reasons… As far as the people of Pakistan were concerned, it was going to be very uncomfortable for them that their government, you know, is in cahoots now with the United States and gets hold of Osama bin Laden,” Durrani said.

Following his candid statements on the Bin Laden raid, he added, “Except that I do not know what happened, I do not know what happened.”

Is this the main reason why you call Pakistan epicentre of Islamic terrorism? ISI harboring terrorists?

Old story,Pakistan always knew!Is that even news?:rofl::rofl::rofl:

. .
Yeah we knew about his hideout since you Indians made that infamous Movie 'Tere Bin Laden' :D
I didn't watch that one, i watched "Zero Dark Thirty"
Here's my favourite scene from that movie, i mean really? did the Seal team, did that? call out,Usama,Usama in night?
:)

.
????????? Lets analyse the argument
1-ISI knew about OBL and probably provided him a warm cozy residence unless US CIA knew the hideout and delivered an embarrassing punch. Only to reduce ISI's humiliation by not naming the host of OBL.
2-ISI didn' know about OBL. CIA found the man and delivered a punch on their own. Then again reducing ISI's humiliation by terming this operation as joint one.
3-CIA knew the location before hand and only shared it with ISI when their choppers were about to attack the hideout and thus gifted some credit to ISI by not naming them as the hosts or involved in aiding him.

Exactly. There is no way the whole OBL affair looks good for Pakistan or the ISI, for any thinking person.

Further, I don't regard it as a "closed affair" @Areesh - we have a pansy of a president at the moment. You may find this coming back to haunt you with the next president. We're well aware of how unpopular we are in Pakistan, and my own opinion is that all aid should stop. I don't know anyone here who respects Pakistan as a reliable partner in any sense.

Hi,

Actually it the U S that got away with it---the Pakistani commander in chief Kiyani was a coward----anyone else with some ballz would have opened up the screw ups of the Americans right from day one---at how they lied to the American public all thru the war---and how they supported the paid terrorists to move their equipment----.

Hi,

Just think about it----the noise of 2 helicopters landing---then one helicopter crashing and burning and then there is a fire fight going on---and they would call " Osama"---and Osma would put his head out to see what was happening without a gun in his hand and then wuld run back to pickupthe rifle. The movie was all bullshit and drama for the public consumption.

?????? Even yesterday, the Pakistan received CSF payment with a bundle of thanks to US. I mean why would Pakistan need US money when its fighting its "own war". The dilemma is that Pakistanis have always demanded military aid in return of their services instead of help to build up economy, develop human resource base etc. How can one speak up against the paymaster?

. .
Actually 19 seals in 2 helicopters came; One crashed and burned with 4 to 5 seals dead or injured; Now, when they went back with their dead or injured seals, equipment, so called bin laden himself (if he was there), his 2 other family members, one son and one son in law, this brings total of at least 22. Now, if you know about the one heli they had, it cannot carry 22 persons and neither the payload.. SO??? how they went back to Jalalabad; by Train, by Bus ?? by Taxi?? Sometimes people get so carried away that they even doubt their own; There is more to tell , but lets leave it here as it is that;

ISI had complete info, & actively helped US.

.
So you got just a stupid TV show to prove your point.

As for USA. It is still giving billion dollar to us. So you want to say USA is giving billion dollar of its tax payers money to someone who harbored their enemy. Not really kid. They are not dumb.
For god sake New york post is not a TV show its a Daily newspaper :hitwall: Did you even manage to read the link? i think NO you just want to argue. Retard

At first the money was for the usage of Pakistan's transport infra structure and then use of military. The damage done to the roads and bridges by the movement of heavy American equipment is into billions that we would get back---. Then the money was to hunt for the al Qaeda terrorists that the u s military pushed into Pakistan---and that has been going on for years.

It was never aid---Pakistan used the wrong term---and both them and the americans got stuck to it---Pakistan should have been better off stating the money for resources and services provided.

.
no matter how you defend mr.coward ISI chief . this slap of abitabad operation can't be washed now . that was the day when world see how much active and brave pakistani army air force is and what the s#it ISI know . you guys are useless for me since that day .
