There once was a tyrant king who ruled his people with an iron fist but his people never revolted. Being a tyrant, he worried for when the people might finally revolt. So, one day, he discussed his fears with his grand vizier, that how might he get a pulse of the people and how much resentment there is among the people. The vizier suggested to double the taxes and see how the public reacts. The king doubled the taxes but the people didn't react. They started paying double the money and everything went as normal. Perplexed, the king again summoned the vizier who suggested to quadruple the taxes. The king did so, but again, in vain. Frustrated, the king ordered that not only would the taxes by quadrupled but every citizen who came to pay the taxes should be spanked with a "chittar" (google it if you don't know). Much to his dismay, the people started paying the inhumane taxes and receiving the chittar treatment. The king finally gave up and summoned all his subjects. He asked them, what the hell they wanted and what it would take for them to revolt. The people replied, "Why would be revolt, your Majesty. We are happy with your rule. We only have one problem though. The queues at the tax collector's place are long. We humbly request you increase the number of chittar bearers so we can get spanked quickly and go about our day."
