The HQ-9 has almost nothing to do with the S-300.

HQ9A completely overwhelmed S300 in the SAM bidding test in Turkey with 10 out of 10 hit accuracy. To be honest, inducting HQ9A SAM is more cost effective than inducting J10b/c. It's a big challenges for IAF penetrating Pakistan's sky.

S400 will ultimately be copied by China.

Good News ... Unlike the PESA radars of the US MIM-104 Patriot/Russian S-300/S-400 systems, the HQ-9 uses a state-of-the-art AESA radar, so its better.

It is reportedly a better system than the S-300. Most probably has been in limited service with Pakistan.

Also, HQ-9 has little to do with India's S-400 acquisition. We have FM-90s for short rage, SPADAs for short to medium range and HQ-16s for medium range. HQ-9 will be the medium to long range system.

Well, as such, Pakistani acquiring S400 is not easy. So for the time being, HQ9 would do exceptionally well in both offensive and defensive strikes.. Also, HQ9 is way better than S300. It's all about protecting the air territories. Both serve essentially the same purpose of course, S400 may be more lethal. Better than having nothing to counter it inni?
