TOKYO: Japan has pledged to work with and support Pakistan in areas of economy, security, democracy and rule of law.

This was disclosed at a meeting between Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Japanese Minister of State Katsunobu Kato in Tokyo.

The Japanese Minister of State appreciated the efforts undertaken by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif towards the uplift of economy and improvement of security in Pakistan.

He also condoled the loss of precious lives in Peshawar terrorist attack last month.

He said Pakistan and Japan can deepen bilateral relations and cooperation at international arena.

He said Pakistan’s positive reviews in its IMF Program are encouraging for Japan to resume Yen loans.

The Japanese Minister of State assured that his country would continue assistance towards settlement of IDPs, eradication of polio, floods mitigation and fight against terrorism.

Finance Minister underlined the efforts of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to promote peace and friendship in the region.

He regretted that Prime Minister’s sincere overtures for peaceful and cooperative relations with India have not received appropriate response. He also discussed the immense human and material losses accrued to Pakistan from the ongoing war against terrorism.

Earlier, speaking at a luncheon hosted in his honour in Tokyo by President Japan Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship League Seishiro Eto and former Foreign Minister of Japan Koichiro Gemba, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar invited Japanese companies to fully benefit from a Special Economic Zone being established in Sindh.

During a meeting with Chairman, Japan External Trade Organization, Hiroyuki Ishiguro in Tokyo the Finance Minister discussed enhancement of trade volume between the two countries.

Meanwhile in an interview with Japanese economic journal ‘Asian Review’, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says prospects of investment in Pakistan are bright due to the government effective policies

He said infrastructure development and terrorism pose major challenges but necessary steps have been taken to address them.

To a question, the Finance Minister said the Pak-China Economic Corridor will benefit the entire region including Central Asian states, India and Afghanistan. He said Japan could also have access to the Gulf States through the economic corridor.

He said Pakistan and Japan have a history of bilateral economic and trade relations, and there is a great scope to expand them further.

Chop sticks are easy to eat with... what is difficult to understand is Japan's foreign policy. As admirable as it is I can not understand the leanings of the Japanese government. They seem to make it a point to befriend everyone which is an excellent policy if looked at idealistically but will not help make real allies unless stands or taken on certain issues. Please enlighten me on what is the foreign policy
on a side note i can not comment in the seniors cafe yet because i am not mature enough it seems...

A stronger Pakistan can only be good for China and the region.

A strong, stable Pakistan is good for the entire South Asian-Indian Ocean Region. Period.

We need to get more Japaneses investment in the automobile sector especially
Yamaha motor cycle plant to be inaugurated in Pakistan

Hopefully they can convince Nissan to open a assembly plant here

Investments and production chain will come in time, my friend. Right now, we're coming in to help Pakistan develop energy security. For example the coal plant in Lakhra. When Pakistan can realize energy security , this will be a green light for more and more investments !

Step by step ! Together.

The way we see it, my bro, is that we have a non-interventionist policy -- so long as Japanese nationals and interests are not harmed. Diplomacy is crazy to interpret and in regards to Japanese and Pakistani relations ( no offense meant for Indian members here) -- we have had strong relations with Pakistan -- be it economic, history, politics, cultural -- since the founding of Pakistan in 1947. And i think that this should be enhanced upon.

I'm never a proponent of a "zero sum" mentality , and its important for nations and their governments to think broadly.

Thank you for the answer I know the relations of Pakistan and Japan have been very strong. I actually meant broader goals of the Japanese government in regards to foreign policy in general with the new policies in defense and rearmament. but that is a longer topic please tag me if you ever write about it. xie xie ni

Pakistan-Japan relationship is decades old and needs to continue with a renewed commitment for the betterment of people of both countries.
