The latest satellite images released from the National Aeronautics And Space Administration (NASA) have shown that Pakistan is among the world’s fastest greening countries due to reforestation efforts.
Pakistan’s arable land has been growing in double digits over the last few decades. A significant change was seen in the previous four to five years. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report, the country’s arable land grew by 600,000 hectares between 2014 and 2016.

In two years, it increased from 36,252,000 hectares to 36,844,000 hectares.
Due credit must be given to the Billion Tree Tsunami initiative started by the Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) ruled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in 2014-15.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also experienced deforestation during this period. The area under forests has shrunk from 1,515,000 hectares in 2014 to 1.429,000 hectares in 2016.
