Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, or PIA, management is making efforts to persuade the government to induct 20 fuel-efficient aircraft in its fleet, according to its top official.
Muhammad Ali Gardezi, secretary aviation and chairman PIA, said that all efforts are being made by the management to reduce costs, increase revenue and to induct fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft in its fleet.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected officers of PIA Senior Staff Association (Piassa) in Karachi, he said employees' salaries are around 17 per cent of the total costs of the airline whereas fuel constitutes 56 per cent of the total costs. Director human resource Aijaz Mazhar, director Shahnawaz Rehman, senior officials and representatives of PIA's unions and associations were also present on the occasion.

He appreciated the performance of PIA employees in successful Hajj operation and hoped that the employees will continue to work with the same zeal and enthusiasm.
Both the office bearers, president PIA Senior Staff Association Aqeel Siddiqui and general secretary Safdar Anjum assured the chairman PIA of Piassa full support for the betterment of the airline.
