Its a middle eastern source so the wording was expected. Pakistan in reality is carefully balancing the relations between GCC and Iran. Pak Army Chief met Iranian ambassador seeking to increase military cooperation. Iran is being engaged from SCO platform, it also seeks to join CPEC for land access to China for trade and energy export purposes. Even right now Pakistani naval ships are on a visit to Iran. Right after the artillery strikes in Daesh held Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, Pakistan's advisor to PM on Foreign affairs went to Iran to take them into confidence to deal with IS in Afghanistan.
Pakistan at the same time has increased defence ties with GCC, with appointment of Raheel Sharif, who also placed a condition to include Iran into the anti terror coalition even if as a observer. Its a master stroke by Pakistan and will give Pakistan strategic outreach into GCC. Bahrain and Qatar are already being engaged through military diplomacy.
This is the first time Pakistan is increasing its defence and security relations with GCC and Iran simultaneously, this is the kind of astute diplomacy we need.

Misleading headline, Pakistan has no agenda to send strong signal to anyone when it comes to our foreign policy. Secondly PAkistan-IRan are not very close as they were with Shah of IRan. Iran builds chabahar with india to bypass Pakistan strategically and Pakistan should'nt look after its interests and allies, rofl. Anyone can compare our Trade, diplomatic, cooperation in all fields with GCC and IRan. And GCC is PAkistan's most important trade partner since the 80s. Iran post-79 has used its influence to favor conditions for shia islam promotion in Pakistan, they are only close to this segment and on other issues shrewd businessmen. Iran even in sanctions never agreed on pricing for IP gas pipeline knowing Pakistan as a poor or brotherly country. Inside IRan there is hell llot of animosity and bad press for PAkistan. Nothing to do with our ties with Saudi, like india they blame their own pathetic treatment of iranian sunnis (who live on the edges of the country) of on foreign countries. Any incident in Sistan-Balochistan province in 2005 is recalled or Iraqi Kurdistan is blamed for the northwestern kurdish areas. Isolation and shia nationalism have also messed Irani society, some are extremely atheist or very religious. Both distrust each other more than any enemy state. Iran in Pakistan is more of a perception PAkistanis who go there only know and they are not treated well. If you wear shalwarkameez and have tanned skin they pre-judge you as poor and below them.
