Chennai: Perhaps for the first time, jail officials have seized a Pakistan flag from Puzhal central prison in Chennai. A cell phone was also found with the flag, and both were kept inside a parcel close to the compound wall.
Sources said that officials in the prison special squad, who were entrusted with the task of preventing the entry of contraband, mobile phones and other things inside the prison, were conducting a routine check, when they stumbled upon the parcel.
When they opened it with necessary precautionary measures, they found a Pakistan flag and a mobile phone. They seized both the materials and filed a complaint with the Puzhal police.
It is suspected that someone might have threw the parcel inside the prison from outside. However, the police are not ready to take things lightly and have decided to conducted a thorough investigation to find out why and how the Pakistan flag and mobile made their way into the high security jail.
"Based on complaint from jailor Jayaraman, inspector Ramesh Babu and other officials are conducting a thorough probe," sources said. It is to be noted that the Puzhal prison houses notorious criminals including extremists who had terror links.
