What's new

Pakistan converts PIA into a limited company

I used to travel on PIA all the time and even until 2010 they were good. But these days? Bloody awful. The Government should not be in the business of running airlines.

Ab PIA k sara kam chor or corrupt mulazimeen ko takleef ho rahe hae, os waqt kahan thaa jb ya Safad Hathi arbon rupa khaa raha thaa har mahina

With fall in fuel prices, PIA should have turned a corner,
Even In India , nearly Broke Air India has reduced its losses due to low fuel prices and Bankrupt Spice Jet has now become profitable
A fall in fuel prices is going to mean little if politicians have stuffed the organization with political appointees to where it is overstaffed by 70%, and that's not even taking into account the losses due to traditional bureaucratic inefficiencies and corruption.
Hand over the organisation to me for 2 years and I will turn it into profitable organisation.
And then what?

We'll be back in the same situation in 5-10 years, if that.

The problem here is with the concept of government ownership - politicians and bureaucrats have no direct investment in the organization and therefore do not really have a vested interest in doing everything they can to make it profitable. The PMLN has the right idea in principle, of selling a stake to a 'strategic partner' that takes over all operational responsibilities with the government acting as a silent majority stakeholder.

Lets stop being naive and be honest and true to ourselves for a few minutes at least; we both know PMLn very well through their track record of past 30-35 yrs, they are the smartest, merciless greedy robbers. Their idea may be ok but their intentions are bad and that's all matters. It is like the extremists using sharia and Islam as the cover for their distorted and twisted ideology and to justify their heinous crimes against humanity.
We need to stop this blatant loot of national assets and wait until an honest govt is in place that will decide the fate of PIA through a healthy debate and home work with sincerity and honesty. After turning the organisation into profit, it can still be privatised and the national treasure will not loose rather gain and govt will be in a position to negotiate better terms with the potential buyer.

There was a time when PIA helped make Emirates .

Wishes for its future.

Even if N made PIA profitable it will only last few years till new goverment f up everything again. Its better to get rid of PIA. Anyway when are they moving PIA headquarters to Islamabad?

PIA PTCL WAPPDA RAILWAY ARMY PAF NAVY. these departments were the symbol of pakistan,s federation.these are privatized one by one which is a very very dangerous for the federation of pakistan. the people of pakistan will divide to their provinces in future. these departments has one link though out pakistan. there were no punjabi no pathan no sindhi and no baloch. the privatization policy is a big step toward pakistans destruction.

“All stakeholders, employees of every grade and category of PIAC are hereby assured that they stand transferred under the ordinance to PIACL with the same designation and on the same terms and conditions as they held in PIAC,” he said and added that all lenders, foreign and local, fleet and non-fleet, and other creditors of PIAC will continue to enjoy the same contractual benefits and protections that they enjoyed from PIAC.

This para wouldn't stand the moment PIA is privatized, or at least it shouldn't. If I remember correctly, the last time the government tried to downsize the PIA it was met with massive strikes and it had to be operated by the air force for that time until the government gave in. This is the nature of PIA and our people.

My room-mate used to pay $110 for a flight back home which used to cost me $1100+. His older brother used to pay $50. All because their dad was in the PIA. Thrice in one year he visited Pakistan on long weekends, vacations were another matter all together.

Pakistan cannot afford the White Elephant called the PIA. Greece shut down Olympic Airlines for the same reason. TWA is no more, nor is PANAM. Why is PIA such a sacred cow?

I would say better late than never.

This is a step by Ishaq Dark ulterior & Co. and ugly faces to privatise PIA at a very low price to themselves. He is the ugliest son of shit (SoS). (منہ مومناں کرتوت کافراں). These are the hypocrites who will be in lowest and extremist part of hellfire.
No i think it,s a good decision.PIA was making huge losses and was ruled by bunch of corrupt incompetent fools and by privatizing it ,the owners will have a goal of profit in mind.Hence the resources will be managed more economically, efficiently and effectively.

UAE Rulers are going to buy PIA accroding to tribune.

I am against the Selling of PIA as it weakens the Aeronautical Engineering departments of Pakistan

However I am all for reduction in Employees and restructuring

To many members here, why does Pakistan have to sell PIA to have it be turned around?

Look at the SOEs in China. While their run privately, or well as close to private as the CEOs running them while also being in the Chinese government can get, they the government and SOEs support eachother in economic policies.

The best case scenario is to have the PIA be run by a private individual with authoritative powers who's only assignment is to turn the company around. I'm sure @Viper0011 can offer plenty of names of mid-higher lever managers in the aviation industry ready to have their name enshrined in stone on how well they did the impossible.
