Pakistan considering import ban on locally available materiel

Rather banning imports which means denial to consumer, focus on helping the startups. If the culture of making things is not there than banning imports will mean finding loopholes or black marketing. Which would further make sense in public that local goods are bad and imported one is better.

Put duties on imports and use that money as incubation fund for startups. Build the startup infra, where people can come up with idea to convert into reality.

A ban wouldn't be too good at this point.

Sure we make a lot of defense goods, but are they up to standards? Who gauges and certifies their quality? Locally manufactured automatic-pistols are nowhere as reliable as ones from non-Pakistani sources. The APCs that went into Lyari couldn't stand 9mm bullets from close range.

We should first improve quality and then procure locally imho.
We have the potential to be one of the top names in quality and should strive for that leve.
