ISLAMABAD: Making no secret of support to its ‘decades-long’ partner, Pakistan has said that it backs Saudi Arabia in its row with Canada, and that it stands by the Saudi Kingdom in protecting its sovereignty.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Faisal has said that Pakistan was following with immense concern the “crisis” in relations between Saudi Arabia and Canada, and also that Pakistan, “places on record its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“We fully agree with the statement of the OIC secretary-general that Saudi Arabia enjoys immense respect at the regional and international level as it does among the people of Pakistan.”

Dr. Faisal said that Pakistan always supported the sovereignty of states and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, adding that both these aspects are enshrined in the UN Charter and are among the basic tenets of international law as well as the foundation of peaceful and friendly inter-state relations.

“Pakistan stands by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in protecting its sovereignty as a matter of principle and based on the historic and brotherly relations between our two countries,” Dr. Faisal added.

What’s going on between Saudi Arabia and Canada
Saudia Arabia and Canada have been embroiled in a diplomatic row ever since Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland posted a demand for the Saudi government to release women-rights activist Samar Badawi on social media.

Saudi Arabia, angered by Canada’s demand last week that jailed activists in the kingdom be freed immediately, expelled the Canadian ambassador, blocked imports of Canadian grain and ended state-backed educational and medical programs in Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared to extend an olive branch on Wednesday, saying he would keep pressing Saudi Arabia on civil liberties but also saying the Gulf Arab state had made some progress on human rights.

The Saudi Ambassador to Canada said in an interview with al Arabiya television on Thursday that Trudeau’s comments were positive, but more needed to be done.

The dispute has threatened to undermine Riyadh’s foreign investment drive, a campaign already unsettled by a series of assertive political and diplomatic initiatives by the top oil exporter.

The Financial Times reported that the Saudi central bank and state pension funds had told their overseas asset managers to sell their Canadian equities, bonds and cash holdings.

Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir two days ago ruled out any mediation efforts and said the kingdom was considering taking more measures against Canada for interfering in Saudi Arabia’s domestic affairs.

Should have kept quite...

Waisy ye hua kia h. Short story please

.
But there are still human rights violations in Saudi Arabia. Bitter truth!!
Why this temporary government is taking such sides , leave it to new government to Decide.
It is bitter truth. Where are the voices given Salman donkey's actions in Yemen? Just hippocracy on the moslem side overall.

.
Great move Pakistan now the Saudi's will for sure back you up in FATF
Pakistan didn't need to take sides in this. It doesn't benefit Pak in any way...if anything it can only damage Pak/Canada relations unnecessarily. I thought after that backstab at FATF voting by KSA, Pak would've learned the lesson and stopped being bootlickers...but I guess not.

It is bitter truth. Where are the voices given Salman donkey's actions in Yemen? Just hippocracy on the moslem side overall.
Most sane ppl here wouldn't deny all the shenanigans of KSA like the war in Yemen and other proxies they fund. However u will also find plenty of bootlickers to whom KSA can do no wrong.

As for hypocrisy on Muslim side overall...that's a bit unfair to say the least. Let's take USA for example, the country that's at the forefront of championing democracy and western ideals. USA conveniently overlooks the KSA monarchy and all the proxies it sponsors. Somehow Iraq needed "regime change" but of course not KSA. Or to look at the most recent example...how about in this latest row between Canada/KSA? USA a staunch ally of Canada chose to sit this one out...and told Canada that u r on ur own.

So in short...all countries(not just the Muslim side) look out for their own interests and operate selfishly...which often makes them a hypocrite. U will be hard pressed to find one that's never been a hypocrite.

This is about a tweet by Canadian Minister for 'Human Rights', Chrystia Freeland against Saudi in support for their atheist Western agent blogger Badawi whose family was flown out of the country , fed and settleded by Western Islamophobic organizations. This Minister today again tweeted expressing dismay but condoned Israeli war crime actions against Palestinians by blaming Palestinian rocket attacks as excuse for mass murder of their civilians. She has defended Israel actions before also. She inot a champion in principle just another islamophobe hater of Muslims being politically expedient. Saudis and other Muslim countries sicne 9/11 have tolerated and stayed silent on media campaigns and govt. staements against theme their practices due to their own shameful ties which has resulted in promoting Islamophobia and certain disinformation campaigns to be true.

Saudi Arabia has taken a wonderful stance by a govt.official that they don't have the right to interfere and need to look into their own human rights violations regarding native Americans and elderly homeless people.

Now for a certain segment in Pakistan we call desi liberals, Saudis are a villain and enemy.

Funny part is this certain 'segment' who views Saudis as a villain and yet is happily employed by them and encourages their aid.
It is activist on Yemen but quiet on Syria. Activist on Saudis but quiet on Iran.
Always crying on Saudi funding of madrassas in the 80s with American encouragement, but silent on American aid or Iranian funding.
There is a lot of munafiqism in this segment, no principle. This segment is diverse Shiites, atheists, ahmadis, agnostics [who label themselves as secularists], Ghamdi followers, impractical university feminists,etc.. Those who are pretty vocal regarding extremist mullahs but are even more extremist and rcondescending in their opinion against other Pakistanis. They are pathetically polarized, have nothing in common apart from their hate and agenda to change Pakistani society which they don't even know will result in. They should look at themselves and analyse what good US aid did to them.

P.S. I'm against all sort of foreign funding into Pakistani educational institutions and place of worship wherever it comes from
