This is bound to increase manifold with increase in disposable income. The figure of 1 billion is from 2012 and it is an increase of 16 percent from 2011. I am sure it is much higher in 2015.

Yah another thing is Indians do a lot of pilgrimages and things like that compared to most developing countries, hence why even when India was poorer, the domestic tourist circuit was still quite strong raw number wise.

Yes. And all our religious sites are within our country which boosts tourism further.
Festivals like Kumbh mela alsone attracts millions of tourists. Some 120 million people visited Allahabad alone during 2013 Kumb Mela in a span of just 2 months. I can only imagine how difficult would it be for the organizers to manage such a huge crowd.

Recently saw thousands of tourists in Lahore....and overall Pakistan....looks like a massive tourism boost coming to Pakistan.

yes we are working on bringing foreign tourists back to pakistan recently we hosted few foreigners here in pakistan and two of the groups came back again in pakistan , major problem for foreigners coming to pakistan is getting visa of pakistan.. its not easy for them to arrange letter of invitation and no one can trust and give them LOI so easily thats the main hurdle for foreign tourists other wise we have alot of potential to highlight and bring out side world to pakistan as we have one of the mightiest mountain ranges which orginates from pakistan and got deserts and fertile land etc and all of those foreigners rated pakistan better place for tourists specially for female back packers then india and most of the tourists who are coming to pakistan are those who have been to india and wants to explore pakistan as they have heard alot negative about pakistan in india and surprisingly they end up in Loving PAkistan and its lovely friendly people ..
