Army chief General Raheel Sharif asked Afghanistan on Tuesday to hand over six suspected Peshawar school suspects in Afghan custody to Pakistan.

Pakistan, Afghanistan pledged to continue operation on their respective side of the borders and vowed not to let any use their soil against each other’s country.

The Army Chief, accompanied by Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, arrived in Kabul on Tuesday on a day-long visit for talks on security issues amid warm military-to-military relations.

General Raheel Sharif, leading a high level delegation, called on President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace in the afternoon.

According to sources the army chief also raised the issue of the handover of six suspects of the attack on Army Public School attack who had been arrested in Afghanistan.

Last week during a media briefing, the army spokesperson Maj Gen Asim Bajwa said that the six men suspected of being involved in APS attack had been arrested by the Afghan authorities on intelligence passed on by Pakistan.

During a meeting between COAS and Afghan president, both appreciated the improving relationships between neighbouring countries. According to Inter Services Public Relations, they further pledged to continue security operations against extremist elements on their respective sides of borders and vowed not to let their soils be used against other.

“The Army Chief also apprised the Afghan president of Pakistan’s efforts to push the peace process forward,” a Pashto-language statement from issued by the Palace said.

“The messages from the Pakistani delegation were positive and their commitments have raised hopes that results will be clear within weeks.”

“The Afghan gov’t hopes that the Pakistani pledges and steps will yield positive results,” the statement further said.

The army chief also met Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah during his visit. Abdullah acknowledged the positive developments in bilateral relations between two countries including progress in operations, border management and intelligence sharing.

Earlier ISPR said the army chief and ISI chief had arrived in Kabul on a one-day visit to discuss matters pertaining to security.

This meeting looks kind of Overpowering to me with Pakistan Delegations full of Military Official while Afghan ones are their newly formed Delegation. Pakistan army should start talking to ANA and try to form a working relationship to solve most of these Crisis.

Pak should have to also engage with Abdullah Abdullah..

He was better choice because Ghani looks Opportunist type while he has overwhelming Tajik and after Pakistani Clarity in going against Taliban of all sorts (Declared Haqqani Group as Terrorist) both Abdullah and Pakistani establishment can come to the term especially when Pashtunistan issue comes to picture.

this is indeed shame on Pakistani politicians .... they are only good in corruption and making the nation fools

Everybody is Opportunist that's not the Problem..
Problem is that when you only engage with one side of coin. The Other side might get frustrate with give you nothing when side of the coin comes in front..

or maybe Army wants to do it there way? We all know Army has a role in our foreign policy so we shouldn't be surprised considering the Afghan/Pakistan situation.

The new GOVT is very young and I think a move like that may upset them. Let's give them some time, I am sure Pakistan will engage them at every level. So far Ghani proves to be much better then Karzi so lets hope for better relations with this GOVT.

It means you never knew Abduallah Abdullah ...in the present regime, he serves as the real contention for Pakistan ...he never remained in any favorable position towards Pakistan in his whole life ...he has always spoken against Pak and shall not be expected as a pro....and Pashtunistan issue is a dead horse .....no need to flog it again !

He was associated with Northern Alliance in the past and Pakistan Support for Taliban had turned him against Pakistan along with Northern Alliance as a whole but current situation is taking new turn between Pakistan and Afghanistan...You need to acknowledge that because now Pakistan is ready to take out Taliban and that can work for him for new start....Current Afghan setup is divided between Pashtuns and non Pashtuns while Ghani enjoy Pashtun camp he enjoys Tajik camp....

If Taliban is taken care of then they wuld be replaced by Nationalist elements in Afghanistan and this whole Dead Horse would come back to live and started haunting us in the form of Ghani while the best counter for this scenario would be Abdullah Abdullah because he is supported by non Pashtuns especially Tajiks which could give Pakistan a position to Bargain.

Another thing is that current Afghan Army is comprised mostly of non Pashtun Elements and among non Pashtun Elements he have most support so in order to improve our Cooperation at military level he is our best bet right now so that is why he should be Approached and Approached fast to mend our ties and build Working relations before other players in the region become active and Pakistan loss the Best opportunity they have to coordinate with all elements of Afghanistan instead of Chosen few based on old relationship.

Pakistan need to Approach both sides because Afghanistan is a democracy now and if today we got Ashraf Ghani then tomorrow he could be running the show in Afghanistan. If Pakistan doesnt work things out with him then in the end it would be diplomatic disaster and believe it or not Afghan Nationalist tendencies are best contained by Abdullah Abdullah right now because his major support base is among non Pashtuns and if we get things through with him then we can get lot of leverage in Afghan military as well.

If we don't talk to ANA, will they keep nurturing the terrorists? :undecided:
On the firstplace, I don't see a reason, why ANA should dislike working with Pakistan army!
However, the isue is not limited to few terrorists.... its the whole network, objective, training centers, supply chains, and propaganda cells in Pakistan.... and i don't see a reason why we should suddenly forsake all the killings and loss, just at the moment when we are fast homing on, to the goal.

There is no Dislike between both side of Military Command instead its DEFICIT OF TRUST. That need to contained by both side start building Working Relations with each other and it will also provide Opportunity to understand the Prospectives of both Sides as well and may lead to Joint Strategy in getting rid of Terrorism on both side as well..
