Riyadh — Troops have started arriving for the largest and most important military maneuver in the history of the region called “Ra’ad Al-Shamal” (North Thunder).
The military drill will be carried out at King Khaled Military City in Hafr Al-Batin, northern Kingdom.
Some 20 Arab, Islamic and friendly countries, in addition to the Peninsula Shield Force, are taking part in the exercise.
The countries are: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Senegal, Sudan, Kuwait, Maldives, Morocco, Pakistan, Chad, Tunisia, Comoros, Djibouti, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, Egypt, Mauritania, Mauritius, in addition to the Peninsula Shield force.
The exercise aims to enhance fighting abilities, increase coordination between countries participating in the exercise and facilitate the exchange of information and experience, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Al-Asiri, adviser at the office of minister of defense, was quoted as saying last week.
