Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Pakistan is an important partner for Russia in South Asia, reported Radio Pakistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana on Friday.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation, and also current international issues during the meeting. Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir were also present at the meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Pakistan’s accession to the SCO. President of Russia Vladimir Putin said: “I am glad that we met for a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SCO Summit”.

He said Russian-Pakistani relations have been constructive and mutually beneficial. President Putin said: “our relations are developing in many areas, and our trade has increased, even if only by a few percentage points. Of course, we are able to do much more than we are doing now.”

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif thanked President Vladimir Putin, and the Russian Federation for supporting Pakistan’s full membership in the SCO.

PM Nawaz Sharif said: “while in Ufa we did agree on improving Pakistan-Russian bilateral trade, there is improvement but not the level that we agreed upon. It has been always my endeavour to build and strengthen our relationship and I am continuing to strive for that.”

Interesting to see Putin mentioned only mere trade.
ZERO mention of strategic or military ties.

Whereas In his meeting with Modi he mentioned Strategic & Defence ties twice.
Our bilateral defence cooperation is built on strong mutual trust. Russia exports its modern military technologies to India. We will upgrade and intensify this cooperation, through joint manufacture, co-production and co-development of military hardware and military spares, with increasing reliance on the adoption and sharing of future technologies, in compliance with the obligations of the sides under the existing agreements on military-technical cooperation.

We will work towards a qualitatively higher level of military-to-military cooperation. We will continue holding regular joint land and sea military exercises, and training in each others’ military institutions. This year will see the first ever Tri-services exercise INDRA — 2017.

Without Pak Eurasian integeration and security is incomplete.

Mr. Putin is stating this FACT in so many words.

Regardless, of what hatemongers might say or think... EEU, SCO, OBOR and CPEC are all different aspects of same Project i.e. Eurasian Integeration guided by China and Russia.

Down the road Iran and Turkey will be part of this Strategic Project.

That Pak is part and parcel of this is a given. Throughout History Pak has been gateway, a crossroad of this vast super continent.

As I have been saying this for some time now... Pak needs to accept that Pak is South West Asian regional power of global consequence.

Just finish the CPEC phase 1 and start with gusto on phase 2... with rapid industrialisation Pak State can boost socio-economic development.

An economy which is officially 300+ Bln GDP, with unaccounted GDP of about 30% or more in the unregulated sector, even with 5% annualised average growth... Pak will be a Trillion+ economy within in decade.

So, no surprise, Mr. Putin considers Pak to be an important partner.

Things are just starting... with 10 more years of Mr. Modi... Pak will be a strategic partner of Russia as well.

Let the Great Wheel of Time Turn, let it solve mysteries!

A couple of years ago such a statement would have been unthinkable. However with Russian Pakistani strategic aims aligning up in Afghanistan and Central Asia, ties will only continue to get warmer.

Vladmir Putin & Xi Jinping are there to help us and we are still busy in purchasing UPS and batteries every year.
CPEC was just a start. Pakistan deserves 10x more than CPEC. We have enough potential to create 10 million well payed jobs for our people in next decade. A decade is enough to install industries, power plants, dams, irrigation canals, universities, hospitals, schools, airports, docks, military industrial complex, oil wells, gold and copper mines, IT parks, railtracks, transport systems and many more. We can do all this in just 10 years.

We did not used the friendship of Americans, Europeans, Koreans and Japanese in the past to bring some game changing tools and i have a fear that our leadership will be on the same path in this bloc as well. Pakistan had the natural resources and we could have asked the Westerners to bring in the equipment and drill that for us. Arabs used their wealth and created assets but our ruling class only raised their overseas offshore accounts. This is a story of tears!!!

Just a slight correction. We should have asked for the equipment and done the drilling ourselves, learning from our mistakes in the process.

Looks like India/Afghanistan have successfully managed to isolate Pakistan once again... so much isolation. Not sure how Pakistan is going to survive this for long.
