What's new

Pakistan Air Force to make Aviation city in Kamra: Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman

Good News looking PAF going to invest in these projects instead to go for new fighters...
New Stealthy JF-17s
New Assembly plant for J-31
and Ukrnian AN series cargo assembly plant.

and they will concentrate for current situation with J-10 Series fighters...

.
Kamra is the mainstay of PAF with all techinical expertise at one location.
It's just a term used, just like we built Wah Cantt around HIT and related factories.
should they not spread out the technical expertise. how about down south to the coast at gwadar airport. that place is a mess hole. if you dont bring development there then it will remain a mess hole.yes china will be building port there and some other facilities but you guys need to focus on the long haul here. the punjab province is the largest province which has a huge amount industry and are neglecting the others. india has noticed this and is taking it to their advantage in-regards to the bla. also making parts for commercial planes should be on the agenda too.

.
Area 786 of Pakistan............ will most probably assemble stealth mushaks! :D

Things Pakistanis say in general, and it seems that ACM's aren't immune to it either......... :p:
Do you feel like......harassed?:D well don't bc this is true love until I get banned/reported/blocked, then it'll just be simply awks  hehe:oops:

Well do not know much but it seems that PAF is looking to develop an entire range of Aviation related stuff.

Currently PAC manufactures
Basic Trainer Aircraft MF-17 MUSHAQ

Intermediate Jet Trainer
Karakorum-8

Multi-role Fighter
JF-17 Thunder

Rebuild facility of PAC has in the past re-manufactured the Saab- 2000 AEW&C

Various UAV's / UCAV

IMO this might be possible...

What can be added:
Basic / Intermediate Trainer like the HURKUS could be added to this.

Intermediate / Advance Jet trainer like T50- Golden Eagle

Multi-Role Medium / Heavy Fighter like SU-35 / J-16 / Euro Fighter Typhoon
Fifth Generation Fighter like T-50 PAK-FA / J-31 / TFX / KFX and JF-17 Stealth variant.

Manufacture Karakorum Eagle AWACS

Manufacture An-178

Other UAV's / UCAV's

Helicopter

This option i don't think it'll ever happen ...

Cause if Pakistan buys these Jets it'll be in limited numbers like 36-50 (2 Squadrons) and no country will allow these jets production here

And same goes for AWACS... PAF bought 4 Karakorum AWACS from China

I think whenever you propose a project you have to look at the cost implications for PAF and the benefit. For instance it is entirely snesible to manufacture the entire Thunder in Pakistan minus the engine, as the numbers and the foreign orders can keep us going for a couple of decades at least if not more. Light and maedium trainers again make sense. However for heavy weight jets where the numbers might be limited and you are extremely unlikely to increase beyond a certain number then the cost benefit ratio becomes too marginal to think about it. Similarly for KE how many platofrms do you think we will need? and is there utilitiy indsetting up manufacturing facilities for them. Now if you talked about possible airliners to be iused for civil and commercial use and talked about 2-300 of them, their dual use will make them a viable option. Similarly if you have established facilities , embarking on buoilding part of an avionics suite also make sense. Similarly you have to think of technologies which are classed as dual role and have commercial as well as military role with slight modification which make sense to invest in for financial gains.
I have long been a proponenet of PA/PAF/PN utilizing its facilities and factories for building products for both military and commercial use. This in my view is the only way we can progress in the fields

There is a possibility of Pakistan buying EFT and that too in high numbers... The orders by Saudi Arabia and other ME countries will also be supplied through Pakistan. There was a deal between Turkey and Germany to manufacture the EFT in Turkey but that could not go through because production cost was still too high. Hence now if PAF / PAC manufactures them this cost would substantially be lower then the Turkish one.

Passenger Aircraft.
There is a requirement in Iran and Africa for around 2000-3000 Passenger Aircraft ranging from 50 passenger to 150 passenger.
.
Ukraine has already invested in Iran and is producing the AN-140 by the name IR-140 so it wishes that if PAC manufactures the AN-178 it would have the chance not just in Pakistan but also in Iran to sell a few aircraft. China even could want PAC to produce the Y-8 / C-919 to capture the Iranian market. The Russians have also indicated that the Sukhoi - Superjet 100 could be purchased by PIA so lets see what is installed in the future.

At the moment Pakistan requires around 100 -150 more aircraft which would steadily grow in the future at a rate of 50-70 aircraft being added per year for the next 15-20 years. This is the minimum that would be required just to fill the passengers from China and the Middle East.

EFT in PAF?? it's a $120 million/ unit i don't think we'll see EFT in PAF....

. .
Hint
Money is not the issue...politics is !
The cost would also be below 100mil...

Well the news came in 2006 that EU plans to sell EFT to Pakistan through Turkey but nothing happened i don't think Politics is the issue if UK can offer us Type 45 Frigate in 2013 they can sell EFT just give them money :P

This is not between Pakistan and UK but politics of the region.
Here is a scenario
India goes for Raffale so that Pakistan is not able to get the avionics for JF-17. Slaps US by not buying F-18's Still goes after heavy lift aircraft / awac and helicopters(still not signed).
Russia offers the Mig-35 as well as the SU-35 to Pakistan India demand more research in PAK-FA design deals with Pakistan in the limbo. India orders heavy lift helicopters from Russia and S-400 Russia invests USD 2 billion in Pakistan in oil pipeline and direct sale of JFT engine.

India slaps UK by not buying EFT. UK offers these to Pakistan US sanctions are there hence deal not possible.

Today US sanctions are not present F-16's are being sent PAF would only buy 100 as this was the initial order the rest would be catered for by JF-17.

Now consider this scenario to Iran - Saudi Arabia and you get your answer.
Same scenario to NATO - Russia

New lines are being drawn AFG is going to be a buffer zone to check both Iran and Russia. Russia knows this and hence enters Syria knowing that Turkey could block the access through Straits of Marmara . The only issue is how can Russia enter IRAQ ? Answer is simple Iran. The Arabs and Western powers do not like this. Arabs try to enter Yemen so that they can control the Gulf of Aden.

Pakistan suddenly becomes very important as it has Gawadar from where it can easily secure the Straits of Hormuz.

US can not provide F-15's because PAF does not want them and they can not offer the F-35 for some time as it would potentially swing the balance of power in the hands of Pakistan and India would go rogue...
The only potent aircraft that can come is the EFT and has US and NATO backing paid off by the ARABS.

Iran would not be able to buy ant Western aircraft other than the SAAB Gripen which does not fulfill the requirement of Iran. Iran would have be depend on Russia and China for aircraft with China on Pakistan's side only Russia will be available.

@araz , @MastanKhan @Windjammer your comments would be appreciated.

Hate to revive an old thread but I did not want to post in a irrelevant thread.

ACM Sohail Aman recently said that the first batch of post-docs would start work at Kamra Aviation City soon. This begs the question, how does one get into KAC? Is there a website? Newspaper ads? I didn't find anything. If there is information it would be helpful for a lot of us.

I certainly hope KAC won't do its recruitment like SPD (nameless ads in papers).

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) Do you have any idea? I am considering this to be a worthwhile future option.

This is the most important project for the future of the PAF.

Ultra long term of course.

Yes I was wondering if this was open to civilians, it should be considering how many undergraduate and graduate-level alumni there are in the expatriate community. I can't find an actual website for KAC, so I think you'll need to get in touch with the PAC, if not the PAF. @Bilal Khan 777 @messiach

Sir, is there some r&d going towards making of an engine in pakistan. If yes, then how long should it take us to reach the final goal of self reliance.
