Pakistan accuses US State Department of lying.

.
Things have certainly changed. Who could have even imagined Pakistan will ever stand up to USA? Pakistan's dependence on USA is diminishing with each passing day. As they keep cutting our civil and military aid, so do they keep losing leverage and influence over Pakistan. This is a great step in right direction as we shouldn't be taking any more dictations from USA since we have not much to lose here. But we should also be cautious, as we want good relations with USA which will be based on mutual trust and respect. Pakistan should pursue its interest and not that of any superpower.

He may or may not be.. but if he does go as some are suggesting somewhat happily.. we have a more dangerous person below him.

Who would you rather have in power?
Amir Liaqat or Sufi Mohammad?

it was a Sarcastic comment for certain member , but i do believe Trump is insane liar , misogynist , Islamophobe .. its not to anyone who American chose to lead them but its certainly not a life time CEO of KKK ..

and i would not chose anyone of them ..

One of the strongest points Imran Khan has made is his reply to Pakistan harbouring Afghan Taliban in particular Haqqani network, He says even if that were true we are talking about 500 hundred tops. The strongest military force in the world at one point had 150,000 soldiers in Afghanistan. Yet they failed to placate Taliban. Is this plausible? Why did they not block of the border? And how do they the explain Taliban attacks in Kundez or Balk which are distal to Pakistan and proximate to Uzbekistan or Tajikistan borders. I mean if a Taliban walk across the Durand Line, cross all of Afghanistan to hit targets in the extreme north raises the question of what US/NATO and Afghan armies are doing? Clearly they need to first look at their own failures before pointing fingers at Pakistan.

ANA/ANSF have long claimed they are killing 1,000 Talis a month. US estimates total strength of Talis at 20,000 to 40,000. If we accept Afghan claims then this war should have been over in two to four years max.

Rofl the first call by American govt. official which is suppose to be exchanging courtesies. A really stupid start if Pompeo has said something like that.
Where is the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Quraishi? I saw him boasting infront of media just few hours back. Looks like he is still missing in action when the PM Office is dealing with it alone.

Hope Imran deals with this grave error by Foreign Office putting the PM in contact with Secy. of State when his job is to engage with his counterpart, the Foreign Minister who is still absent from the scene.

The response by Foreign Office is commendable within an hour of US State Dept. release they shot back the rebuttal. Its a first, before Foreign Office used to stay silent given the outrageous statements that came from American media and govt..
This response will check American behaviour.
PAkistan State establishment should avoid the PM engagement with a US official for now.

What a horrid horrid beginning. Refuse any meeting

For a low level official to give orders to a PM of a country or insinuate this in a press release is a direct insult. Do not allow this fat c**t Pompeo into the country.

'No mention about terrorists in Pompeo-Imran phone call', Pakistan rejects US state dept’s statement

  • In a conversation with new PM, the US Secretary of State expressed his willingness to work with the new government towards a productive bilateral relationship
ISLAMABAD – Taking a stand against American propaganda against Pakistan, the Foreign Office on Thursday clarified that there was no mention of the ‘terrorists operating in the country’ between a telephonic conversation between the United States’ secretary of state and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Pakistan takes exception to the factually incorrect statement issued by US State Dept on today’s phone call btwn PM Khan & Sec Pompeo,” FO spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal wrote on Twitter.

“There was no mention at all in the conversation about terrorists operating in Pakistan. This shd be immediately corrected,” he added.

Earlier today, the US State Department stated that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pressed PM Imran Khan in a phone call to take “decisive action” against “terrorists” operating in Pakistan.

According to State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, Pompeo also “raised the importance of Pakistan taking decisive action against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process.”

“Secretary Pompeo expressed his willingness to work with the new government towards a productive bilateral relationship,” Nauert said in a statement, adding that Pompeo wished Khan success in the wake of his being sworn in as prime minister in Islamabad Saturday after a victory in national elections on July 25.

During the conversation, Khan emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the US and Pakistan on the basis of mutual trust and mutual benefit, and underscored the importance of peace and stability in the region especially in Afghanistan.

The relations between Pakistan and the US nose-dived after President Donald Trump in new year tweet accused Islamabad of giving nothing to Washington but “lies and deceit” and providing “safe haven” to terrorists.

The US Congress also passed a bill to slash Pakistan’s defence aid to USD 150 million, significantly below the historic level of more than USD one billion per year.

In his victory speech last month after winning the July 25 polls, the prime minister said he wants a balanced relation between Pakistan and America which should be mutually beneficial, not one sided.

Before the election he repeatedly blamed Pakistan’s participation in the US-led anti-terror campaign for the surge in terrorism on home soil over the last decade.

Reports say Pompeo is likely to visit Pakistan in September and hold talks with the newly elected prime minister.

Pompeo, who is expected in Islamabad on September 5, would be the first foreign dignitary to meet Imran Khan.

They are talking past each other: the U.S. State Dept. wants Pakistan to reject harboring and breeding terrorists while Pakistani FM is telling the U.S. to butt out (i.e., only deal with matters of "mutual" benefit.) Not a great start.

Except that conversation only took place in Pompeo's head. Not in reality.

Not a great start.

Agree.

It is a self-inflicted wound by the State Department.

No its a case of lying. Trump administration has already lost credibility in front of Khan. Time to cut the supply lines. Fight this war by yourselves.

Islamabad says US readout on PM Khan-Pompeo call ‘factually incorrect’
August 23, 2018

The Foreign Office on Thursday took exception to the "factually incorrect statement issued by the US State Department" regarding the discussion during the phone call between Prime Minister Imran Khan and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo earlier in the day.

A readout issued by the US State Department, attributable to spokesperson Heather Nauert, said: "Secretary Pompeo raised the importance of Pakistan taking decisive action against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process."

However, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal clarified through his statement that there was "no mention at all in the conversation about terrorists operating in Pakistan".

Earlier in the day, Secretary Pompeo telephoned PM Khan and congratulated him on forming the government, DawnNewsTV reported.

Pompeo wished PM Khan well for “implementation of his commitment for the welfare of the people of Pakistan”, read a statement.

PM Khan emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations on the basis of mutual trust and benefit. He also underscored the importance of peace and stability in the region.

With reference to Afghanistan, both the leaders agreed that peace was a priority for their countries.

"Secretary Pompeo expressed his willingness to work with the new government towards a productive bilateral relationship," said the US State Department.

It is pertinent to mention that Pompeo is likely to visit Islamabad in the first week of September for consultations with PM Imran Khan and his team on issues of mutual interests, Dawn Newspaper has reported.

Pompeo, who is expected in Islamabad on Sept 5, will likely be the first foreign dignitary to meet the newly elected prime minister.

During his talks with Pakistani officials, Secretary Pompeo is expected to focus on two major issues: efforts to revive once close ties between the two states and Pakistan’s support for a US-led move to jump-starting the Afghan peace process.

If this was a formal ‘congratulatory phone call’, and the US is to be believed (hard to do given other countries also contradicting Trump Administration statements in the past) then Pompeo was out of line bringing an obviously controversial issue into the conversation. He’s supposed to be visiting Pakistan soon - should have left specific policy discussions for that visit instead of poisoning the waters beforehand. Now, without a US retraction of its press release, the Pompeo visit is likely to be even less productive than it would have, if it even happens at all.
