Pak nuke arsenal seems secure: Indian Army chief - Rediff.com India News

Amid global fears that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal may fall into the hands of terrorists, Army Chief General V K Singh says concern remains over this aspect but he feels these weapons are secure.

"Probably Pakistan also has (such concerns) and they are taking extra measures....I don't think, there is any reason to
say things are not secure. Things are secure," the Army Chief told PTI in an interview.

He, however, added that this will remain a concern given "the way internal dynamics (of Pakistan) are".

General Singh recently raised hackles in Pakistan which had criticised him for his comments that Pakistan and China are
"major irritants" and India [ Images ] was ready to fight a conventional warfare in a nuclear scenario.

Rejecting Pakistan's contention that his recent comments were "jingoistic", he said such views were not only his but of the entire world. "I only said what the whole world is saying. If the whole world is jingoistic...," Singh said.

The Army Chief noted that both Pakistan and China were nuclear armed countries and "who uses (such weapons), we don't
know. As armed forces, we should always keep this in mind that there is somebody who can use it."

Elaborating on his contention, he pointed out that Pakistan has done "sabre-rattling" on behalf of nuclear weapons and "we, as a force, are prepared to fight anytime." Turning to China, he said the borders are calm and confidence building measures are in place and "things are not as bad as we look at the western side (Pakistan)."

He, however, said no one knows "when its intention will change" and "it remains a cause of worry". Commenting on China's capability building, General Singh said it is engaging a lot of India's neighbours and it impacts "our overall security scenario".

Assuring the nation, he asserted that the armed forces will cater to any kind of threat. "We have built capabilities and we are building capabilities. We should be able to meet threat from wherever it emanates

ohhh thank god he feel some thing right is in pakistan. heheh:D

Pakistan is a responsible country with all element of a modern functional country . It total absurd that it will give its nuclear weapons to any illigal hands .Moreover is a nuclear bombs like fire craker that can carry in pocket ?can any lone person or criminal organization operate it ? just wild fear .

certainly they have. missile test failure does not mean they don't have nuclear weapons .

I just don't understand one thing, why the IA COAS has always to comment about Pakistan ??

Has he heard the PA COAS talking about the internal COIN issues of India ?? Has he shown his concern about IA nukes getting into the hands of Maoists or Naxalites ?? Has the PA COAS talked about limited nuke war or nuke umbrella stuff ?? has the PA COAS talked about India being an irritant ?? And much more things.

So why doesn't the IA COAS keep it quiet and act like a professional chief of a professional army, which by the way IA is.

if it comes to point scoring, we can do that to, but we don't, so why IA chief has to do point scoring ??

We are accused of being war mongers and label to be spreading India-hatred, while in reality our chief or army officials never yell about such stuff to bring India hatred among the public, nor the media cries for war or spreads India hatred. But still we get the blame. That's ironic.

And guys, keep the discussion civil.

Instead of inflaming or some other stupid comments, talk with respect to his comments and the circumstances of why he gave the comment and its need at such time.

The same fear was there when USSR disintegrated and Russia was in chaos in early 90s. And the fear of various terrorist organizations gaining access to Soviet's humungous nuclear arsenal was no joke. Pakistan might not have that big an arsenal but with more thana dozen terrorist organizations in the region, even one nuclear weapon becomes a big headache for all the countries around the place, including yours.

I'm surprised you talk about nuclear fears as uncalled worry.

Simply because whatever happens in your country, is having a fallout in ours and terrorism is something we've been suffering longer than you have till date. So anything that goes wrong in your country is naturally our military's concern.

Has he heard the PA COAS talking about the internal COIN issues of India ??

Because insurgents in India haven't been caught spreading bombing plots in a dozen countries in Europe, Russia and Americas. Anything that goes inside India doesn't affect you in terms of insurgency doesn't have dire effects in your cities; but vice-versa happens.

Communists are not a threat to you since your political structure is on the other end of the spectrum and the lack of any Godlessnesss in your country makes fear of Communist terror needless.

So why doesn't the IA COAS keep it quiet and act like a professional chief of a professional army.

Gen. Singh has all the rights to show concern of India to the world and to the national public. Our military is not as secretive in expressing its concerns or what is going on because secrecy unlike yours or Communist case is not a part of our doctrine.

We are accused of being war mongers and label to be spreading India-hatred, while in reality our chief or army officials never yell about such stuff to bring India hatred among the public, nor the media cries for war or spreads India hatred. But still we get the blame. That's ironic.

Sabre-rattling has been done by your former president in terms of nuclear threats post Kargil when there was a nuclear standoff. This was the only official nuclear threat post-world war. You don't even have a no-first-use meaning that we've to be on our toes 24/7 as to when someone would press the button.

What's ironic in this?

for some people nothing that india does is good.....
while some are wrong about almost everything but choosing some name for themselves

And what fall out has happened in your country, can you enlighten us about that. In the last 10 years since this whole mess started, which attack in India has been done by the Talibans and how many attacks that had severe impact on India. Hell, even many of the bombings blamed on Pakistan based organizations has now been revealed to be the work of Indian Hindu terrorist organizations. Heck, the militants in Pakistan control less area when compared to the ones operating on that side of the border. So, what impact in reality has so far been on India, none which i see. Attacks in Kashmir have gone down, many attacks in India now linked to Hindu terrorist organizations, leaving aside the 26/11, which is questionable too (no need to go in that debate)

As said before, nothing happening in Pakistan has so far affected India. And the majority of the plots done abroad with links to Pakistan has involved citizens of that same country who get indoctrinated in their own countries.

Again, what affect has the Taliban on India upto now ?? Plz enlighten us.

Well if he wishes to give an unprofessional face of his, we have no worries. Plus, ours are not secretive, we show our concern where its necessary, ours don't cry on each and every forum, where its not needed.

And what was your politicians doing after the 98 explosions ?? Can't remember ?? Remember it. And i am not talking about politicians, am talking about professional soldiers.

And plz enlighten yourself about the no first use policy, then talk about it, as i have explained it a thousand times of what it means.

By taking few statements of these IA officials it seems he/they want the world to take them seriously as head of a big army which otherwise is snubbed in own country .

Its more sounding like a political juggler than a professional soldier
