Pak, India allow each other for Hydel power projects inspection

LAHORE, May 31 (APP): Pakistan and India have allowed each other for the inspection of Baglihar Dam and Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project. This was stated by Pakistani Indus Basin Water Commissioner, Jamat Ali Shah and Indian Indus Basin Water Commissioner, Oranga Nathan at a joint press conference here Saturday after the first round of four-day Indo-Pak talks.

They said that India has assured Pakistan that Baghliar Dam is being built in line with the recommendations of the neutral experts commission.

Jamat Ali Shah said that Pakistan is ready to allow India to inspect Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project to address their concerns. “ We have extended invitation to India in this regard,” he said.

Indian Indus Basin Commissioner, Oranga Nathan said that Pakistan and India had signed an agreement to exchange information and data regarding Monsoon activity and floods. “ Both the sides have also inked one year performance report which will be presented to both the governments on June 1 (Sunday),” he said.

He further said that the delegations of both the countries would hold talks on Kishan Ganga Dam and Uri-II Project.

He said Pakistan and India have agreed to broadcast flood forecast and situation on Radio Jammu at least thrice a day.

He said that India had also agreed to provide information about the reservoirs being developed over River Ravi.

So much for India' sinister plans to kill Pakistanis from thirst....

You dont want pakistanies even to express their concerns, considering the reality from the past experience based on the history that the two countries have.

Sorry SA you are very wrong here. India can and will use water as a weapon in future conflicts and Pakistan has very real concerns about it. Please note the NEUTRAL expert said that the sluice gates if used during wars for denying Pakistan water was a reality but not his purview to judge on that. He allowed the gates for draining the silt eventhough he could not guarantee its misuse during war.

Regards

India and Pakistan have fought 4 wars. On which one of these occasions, did India cut of water supplies?

There are certain codes of war, including the Geneva convention, which have rules against such tactics. India doesn't have a history of using such tactics, and I find it extremely unlikely that India will do so in the future.

Certainly Pakistan has concerns, and India is addressing these concerns. In effect, your premise that India may use denial of water as a weapon is defeated by this very fact.

Dear SA,

Firstly till this project is completed India never had the means.

Now it will.

Secondly if the previous Govts did not do it doesnot mean a future Govt. wont.

Thirdly water will become sooner than later as precious as oil for both countries so the danger of misuse is a reality.

Regards

India did have the means. Read up on the previous water treaties signed between the two countries.

There is something called precedent and continuation in foreign policy. There is also something called improvement in bilateral relations, which is currently going on.

Yes, water will become more expensive as time passes. However, those who think that the next big wars will be fought over water, are mistaken, atleast in the Asian context.
Leaps in technology and efficient use are already helping countries like China provide for its people. As water management in India improves (India currently wastes a major portion of its annual rainfall), there will be no such doomsday scenario.

Please SA you let youself down by such a statement. Having a treaty is one thing but having the means on the ground is something else.

Please read the report on what the Neutral expert said about the sluice gates and you will have your answer.

Please also read about the riots you have in India when one states tries to build dams on rivers passing through other states.

Regards
