As an option PAF is ready to use motorways as launch strips and could do different placements of aircrafts in war scenerios as well .

PAF did the exercises on landing and take off exercises on Motorway , you could google HIGH MARK exercises and could see the videos , while it takes no time to prepare motorway to get it ready for use . you only have to remove central dividers .

if PAF combat aircraft have to fly from Peshwar to attack targets in India they might need a refueller. they have to operate well within Pakistani terriotrry. Su-30 MKI with their K-100 missiles are going to take shots at them from hundreds of kilometers away

An IL 78 or any similar aircraft does not operate as a loner. It operates in friendly skies meaning electronic environment is friendly; air defence fighters set up a tanker station round the clock as long as the tanker is in the air with back up fighters and SAMs in the area. A mission against a properly defended tanker in the air is one of the hardest mission out there. It's no joke.

Even if the Il-78 is protected it is a big target.

friendly skies cannot be 5-10 km from the Indian border. it has to be at least 200-300 km away from the Indian border

you will be amazed at the amount of wasteful expenditure and stupidity in any organization. The pakistani military is no exception.

i am not saying the Il-78 purchase is a stupid one. it definitely does not meet the initial test
