Well, the booming economy of the past decade meant jobs with very high salaries in both private and public sector for qualified , educated people.The liberalised economy meant abundance of goods and services that were once reserved for the military only. As a result most of the men began leaving jobs in military,particularly the COs. Civvie life and jobs are easier to boot.

In fact, many officers of Indian military leave their jobs after a few years to work as private contractors, middleman etc etc.

Jobs in Hindu military are not well paid?

In theory, they are.. but the added hardship of military jobs means the civvie jobs are more attractive and in most cases with better pay for the more qualified.
Military life means long periods of separation from the comforts of urban life, family, risk of getting killed by the umpteen armed groups all around, lack of proper gear to fight wars, lack of support and supplies...you name it and Indian military has that problem.
