truly speaking... iindian oil and gas sector is heavily underdeveloped.... more than 65% of continental shelf have not been mapped till now... we never tried mapping out there in deep sea ... there is monopoly of govt. oil industry in drilling... more than 80% of exploration is done by ONGC, taxes and closed, untransparent pricing policy make it hard for, pvt. players to enter... and thus devoiding the market competition.... for fair pricing india need atleast 25-30 oil sector industry.... Usa has more than 100...
so, there is huge potential in india... but we ourselves do not know, how much it is... as mapped area is pretty low...
