Obama blocks Chinese company's takeover of Aixtron's U.S. business

actually Aixtron produces machines that manufactures critical simiconductor components as you listed. the US government fears the chinese government will misuse Aixtron machines to manufacture components for nuclear weapons.
Nonsense. China already make nukes that can hit anywhere in earth. And US is ONLY blocking those German assets in US from takeover, not those in Europe, are you reading?

. .
So why is China trying to buy western technologies if you can everything?
If you need me to answer this question, your knowledge with money is not very high. Why there are German assets in US in the first place? It's US benefiting from these German assets, now China is taking over, threatening US, you get it?

. .
Something tells me he doesn't know China is already capable of producing nukes
His feeble brain always think it's military related. So I didn't answer his question . If one understand money , they would know why China is acquiring companies. It's US who think those German assets in US related to their national security, nuclear, radar or whatever, now fear these assets are owned by China, giving Chinese influence on their weapons.

If you try harder I will take you seriously. Why the US spends $100 billions for modernization of nuclear weapons in the next 10 years? Why do Russia and China spend huge money to do the same? The US government rejects the approval because it suspects China can misuse Aixtron technology to modernize missile, radar technology and nuclear weapons.

Why don't you try harder yourself? Nobody here takes you serious

Of course China and Russia do the same on our thermonuclear deterrance, have been doing for years now if not decades, is that news? What US is paranoid now is those German assets in their country are related to their "national security", so can't fall into Chinese ownership, or their "national security" is jeopardized, you get it?

Obama blocks Chinese company's takeover of Aixtron's U.S. business

(Xinhua) 13:58, December 03, 2016

U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday blocked a Chinese company's purchase of the U.S. business of German chip equipment maker Aixtron, despite objections from China.

Obama issued an order directing China's Fujian Grand Chip Investment Fund (FGC) to "fully and permanently abandon" the proposed acquisition of Aixtron' s U.S. business, the U.S. Department of Treasury said Friday evening in a statement.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), which reviews foreign purchases of U.S. companies, and Obama assess that "the transaction poses a risk to the national security of the United States that cannot be resolved through mitigation, " the statement said.

The U.S. president and the CFIUS have the power to block any deal if they consider national security is threatened. The traditionally opaque review process has become one of the top concerns for Chinese investments in the United States.

China had urged the Obama administration not to politicize the proposed takeover ahead of Washington announcing that decision.

"The case...is a normal business acquisition and thus should be dealt with according to business principle and market rules," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular briefing on Friday.

"We hope there will not be too much political interpretation of this normal business activity, still less political disruption," he said.

This is not the first time that Obama has intervened to block a takeover involving a Chinese company. In 2012, Obama blocked Chinese

-owned Ralls Corp. from owning four wind farms in Oregon, citing national security risks as their locations were too close to a military facility.

Ralls sued Obama and the CFIUS for exceeding constitutional rights and failing to provide detailed evidence. In 2014, an U.S. court ruled that Obama and the CFIUS failed to give a constitutional due process to Ralls.

To tell the true, the German public doesn't support deals like this with China. More and more German politicians are demanding a permanent aquisation ban for Chinese investors as long as German investors don't have the same rights in China.

Come on mate, if Germans have cash, they can pay and get it. I do not think China will object to but if you put Cash to the company. Here is the issue is being discussed in a different perspective.

once again, it is not about money. it is national security that is considered. Germany pays $20 billion a year for refugees. do you think the country lacks of money?

you don´t get it, do you? Aixtron is not a fruit exporting company. its machines can be used for both civil and military purposes. that latter is a concern for the west if the technolgy falls in the hand of China.

you don´t get it, do you? Aixtron is not a fruit exporting company. its machines inside US are already used by the US for military purposes. that is a concern for the US if such critical supply is controlled in the hand of China.

Germany is a defeated nation. Japan shares the same fate. If the US say they jump they will ask how high. putting joke aside, the US sees China both military and economic threat. You should not be surprised.

US urged to stop groundless accusations against Chinese firm
Xinhua, December 6, 2016

China on Monday urged the United States to stop making groundless accusations against Chinese companies and politicizing normal acquisition cases.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks in response to U.S. President Barack Obama's block of a Chinese company's purchase of the U.S. business of German chip equipment maker Aixtron.

Obama issued an order directing China's Fujian Grand Chip Investment Fund (FGC) to "fully and permanently abandon" the proposed acquisition of Aixtron's U.S. business, the U.S. Department of Treasury said in a statement on Friday.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), which reviews foreign purchases of U.S. companies, and Obama assess that "the transaction poses a risk to the national security of the United States that cannot be resolved through mitigation," the statement said.

"The Chinese company's acquisition is purely market behavior," Lu told a regular press briefing.

China is opposed to politicization of and political intervention in normal acquisitions, he said.

Lu urged the United States to offer a fair environment and convenience for investment by Chinese companies.

The Chinese government always encourages Chinese companies to carry out overseas investment and cooperation in accordance with market and international rules as well as local laws, he added.

How could a defeat last for some 70 years? Incredible.

Lawmakers ask U.S. to block Chinese takeover of Lattice Semiconductor

By Greg Roumeliotis | WASHINGTON

More than 20 U.S. Congress members wrote to U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Monday asking for the acquisition of U.S. chip maker Lattice Semiconductor Corp (LSCC.O) by a fund with ties to China's government to be blocked over security concerns.

The letter follows a Reuters report last week that revealed that Canyon Bridge Capital Partners, the buyout fund that agreed to acquire Lattice for $1.3 billion, is funded partly by cash originating from China's central government and has indirect links to its space program.

In their letter, the 22 lawmakers wrote that the deal could disrupt the U.S. military supply chain and possibly lead to a reliance on foreign-sourced technologies for many critical U.S. Defense Department programs.

They also pointed to a warning last month by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker that the United Stated will not accept China's "$150 billion industrial policy designed to appropriate this industry."

"Anything other than a rejection of the acquisition of Lattice by this People's Republic of China-front entity would seem to undermine Secretary Pritzker's public commitment," the lawmakers' letter stated.

The members of Congress, Republican and Democrat, wrote to Lew in his capacity as chairman of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), a government panel that scrutinizes the acquisitions of companies by foreign firms on national security grounds.

Representatives for CFIUS and Canyon Bridge did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Lattice declined to comment.

Portland, Oregon-based Lattice makes programmable chips known as "field programmable gate arrays" that allow companies to put their own software on silicon chips for different uses. It does not sell chips to the U.S. military, but its two biggest rivals - Xilinx Inc (XLNX.O) and Intel Corp’s (INTC.O) Altera - make chips that are used in military technology.

China has been working to develop its space program for military, commercial and scientific purposes. As a result, the United States has been wary of China's motives in semiconductor deals, and this skepticism is expected to grow after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, which has already taunted China on issues ranging from trade to relations with Taiwan, is inaugurated next month.

In their letter, the lawmakers called on CFIUS to act as decisively as it did in the case of German semiconductor equipment maker Aixtron SE (AIXGn.DE). Last week, U.S. President Barack Obama upheld a recommendation by CFIUS to block Aixtron's 670 million euro ($717 million) sale to Fujian Grand Chip Investment Fund over national security concerns.

Ho ho ho! The US legislators want to block another one.
When you are deep in debt and need cash, other than selling what other options do you have?
