Why would Russia do that?
Besides the strategic partnership, they would lose huge money while they struggle with their economy.
If you really want to attract them, take out a small loan of a hundred billion dollars and buy some Russian tech.

India does not dictate who Russia should have this relationship with - it Russia's decision ALONE. Russians are not stupid to follow indian dictate on who they can have relation and what type of relation. Indian GDP has nothing to do in Russian policy making. If it is all about making money then Russian will look for new market as india is purchasing from other countries. Only idiots would think in zero sum paradigm. Strategic location and status of Pakistan brings natural attraction to Russia and other countries that india is handicapped on. NO amoung of indian gdp can overcome that location handicap.

They SOLD you a handful of Soviet Era attack/multirole attack helis, which they are selling to Afghanistan too and you think that now you’ll form your “axis”- listen to yourself. This is not the Cold War era where just two strict sides, todays world is multipolar and very open. They sold you peanuts. Upgrading su-30's and PAK Fa projects are more than of 15 billion $'s.

What do you mean by leaving the market? So what you are saying is that if Russia starts providing Pakistan with advanced weaponry India will cancel the deal for upgrading Su-30's? And do exactly what? You have more than 270 SU-30's and they form the backbone of your air-force so if Russia sells us arms you'll just not get upgrades for those planes? I don't think so.

Russia is no longer your preferred partner when it comes to arms procurement, hence we see Rafale and the competition between two western planes (F-16 and Grippen) for the filling the numbers, while not considering Mig-35. Yes there are quite a few deals that you still have with them, but they are mostly either to maintain or upgrade your present systems or for the systems that west is not yet ready to deliver to you, a nuclear submarine for example. Indian armed forces prefers US, Israeli and French equipment over Russian, so there is no future for Russia in Indian defense market, except for the technologies west is still not willing to give to you guys and for that you will have no other option but Russia. Hence Russia has nothing to lose.

Russians are no children, they are one of the oldest players in the game. They are selling S-400 to Turkey while propping Asad in Syria. No one is saying Russians will dump India and choose Pakistan, but they will sell weapons to both the countries.
