Now, the naval cadets of the National Defence Academy (NDA) get a first-hand experience of navigating a ship in the sea in all weather conditions at their campus, thanks to a simulator installed at the naval training center of the esteemed institute.

This thus trains a cadet to navigate in various harbours of the country. The ROR-OOW simulator has been installed at the naval training centre of NDA near the peacock bay at the backwater of Khadakwasla.

A naval training officer at the NDA said, “Earlier, we used to give the cadets basic training on model ships and then would send them on various ships for job training. But with the recently installed ultramodern simulator, we can give the cadets the required training here itself.”

The cost of the simulator is over Rs30 lakh with modern inbuilt technology. “The simulator can be programmed to give a feel of all weather conditions like a disturbed sea, rain in the sea, night time navigation, navigation through storm at the sea, etc. Besides, the simulator has a feature through which navigation at various harbours can be programmed.”

The officers added that the academy will be getting new laser boats and 29 ER class boats to provide better training to the cadets.

“Besides, the Drona-11 simulator used for firing practice is also being upgraded. The academy is also planning to install new baffle range for small arms firing,” added officials.
