Today was the second day of the joint session of the National Assembly. The joint session would continue up to Friday. First, Pakistani nation had great prospects from the current joint session that it would propose a workable solution to the current political crisis. The two days’ joint session has clearly displayed that the assembly members are not serious to bring forward any meaningful proposal to break the incumbent political deadlock. The lawmakers spoke nothing special during the two days session from which the Nation could have concluded that any solution was possible from them. Those lawmakers who spoke on the National Assembly floor used such a language and words that otherwise deserved to be expunged. The lawmakers had to talk meaningfully in the joint session and collectively reckoned over the causes of the current political impasse and brought forward an acceptable proposal. The lawmakers’ speaking on the floor only spoke of the unity with the PMLN, while nowhere in their speeches it appeared that they took superior and dearer the constitution and democracy than the PMLN family members in the politics. Only Muttahida Quomi Movement lawmaker Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui spoke meaningfully that democracy could not be strengthened through family politics.
The opposition parties also have no much expectations of any meaningful resolution from the joint session, hence they have formed a ‘Jirga’ of the opposition parties to break the political deadlock through an out of the parliament approach. There is no room in the constitution and law for the formation of a Jirga to settle the state affairs. The parliament is supreme to all and if the joint session fails to recommend a peaceful and meaningful proposal to end the political stalemate, there rise many questions to the sincerity, competency and ability of the lawmakers.
Keeping in view the prevailing critical phases in the political history of Pakistan, the MQM chief Altaf Hussain has taken a bold step by directing his party lawmakers i.e.from Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies, to submit their resignations at the MQM headquarter 90 owing to the failure of the Assemblies to resolve the problems of the common masses and the country Pakistan. The MQM lawmakers are part of the Sindh Government too with some ministries, but they all too have submitted their resignations at 90. The MQM lawmakers’ resignations from the treasury benches of Sindh Assembly give this party lead over Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) which still enjoys fruits of the government in the KPK by being part of it. The MQM sacrifices and sincerity is superior to PTI and all other parties for resigning only on the principle of the assemblies being dysfunctional to deliver to the masses and failing to resolve the political crisis.
The MQM bold step has once again proved that this party stands only for the poor and middle class people. And it is only the MQM which has strongly opposed and criticized the formation of the ‘Jirga’. The formation of the Jirga clearly means that the Assemblies and the elected representatives have badly failed to resolve the crisis. Can the elected representatives justify the formation of ‘ Jirga’ in the light of the constitution and the established laws of the country? The courts in its many past rulings had declared illegal and unconstitutional the verdicts of a Jirga. How can the formation of this Jirga be allowed by the apex court of the country?
Anyone can disagree with many things of the MQM, but the present bold measure of the MQM is unmatching. This step would surely be an eye-opener to all Pakistanis that only the MQM stands for the rights of the poor and middle class people and go against the wrong and unconstitutional moves by the powerful segments of the society.
