Despite Dhaka's persistent crackdown, around 200 rebels from India's northeast have managed to stay on in parts of Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts, says a report in 'Assam Tribune' quoting Indian Home Ministry sources.

The BSF took up this issue with the BGB during a recent meeting in Dhaka, it says.

The report quoting Home Ministry sources said the rebels are not maintaining any full-fledged camp in Bangladesh but they are staying in about 25 hideouts beyond the prying eyes of Bangladesh security forces.

These shelters are in Khagrachari, Bandarban and Rangamati districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).

The report says that most of the militants staying in Bangladesh belong to the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

But other groups, like the United Liberation Front of Assam (Paresh Barua faction), PLA and UNLF of Manipur, NSCN (I-M) and National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), are also maintaining shelters in Bangladesh.

The Indian government is still not sure whether the NDFB members staying in Bangladesh belong to the Ranjan Daimary or Songbijit faction.

Daimary, former NDFB chairman, was handed to India by Bangladesh, like ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and UNLF chairman Rajkumar Meghen, along with scores of other rebels’ leaders since 2009.

In the recent past, the NLFT took a few kidnapped persons to Bangladesh but the other militant groups are not indulging in any unlawful activity in that country, the 'Assam Tribune' report said.

As the militants are staying mostly in villages and do not move around with weapons, it is difficult for the security agencies of Bangladesh to nab them without specific information.

Though the family members of Paresh Barua are also living in Dhaka, India is not concerned on the issue of bringing them back to India.

Its effort is now focused on bringing back ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia so that he can be involved in the peace process.

Meanwhile, sources said that Bangladesh is concerned about smuggling of psychotropic substances, like banned cough syrup, in large quantity from India, while India is concerned about cattle smuggling.

The matter was raised during the recent BSF-BGB meetings.

It is believed that joint patrolling by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in the vulnerable stretches of the international border would reduce the problems to a great extent, the report said quoting BSF officials.

We have to appreciate the good work done by Bangladesh in apprehending these tinpot little insurgent groups. Their co-operation has been vital for India, ensuring that problematic groups don't find sanctuary across the border, as happens on our western front. Bangladesh and Burma cracking down on them (in those countries) is what really broke the back of all the insurgency in the north-east.

bangladesh should start charging India for taking care of their ****. BGB also need to raise the issue to BSF that their people are constantly crossing the border.

.
Trolling aside I would like GoI to pay BD for providing us Transit to the North Eastern part of our country as well as Taking action against anti India Insurgent groups present in their soil

The gov won't allow the BGB to fire on them? Stupid AL, prevents the BGB from doing there job, the sooner they get kicked out the better.

Don't need your money for doing our job, but want the transit stopped until the LBA and testa is signed.

1.SHWs/BALs shall come and go but our national interests shall remain constant. Analyzing the Brahmonic power based at Delhi, interests of BD, NE FFs and even P/bangla converge when considering the threat Delhi poses to all of our economy, culture and national security. The goals of the Bengalee Mussalman and his obligations in this region must continue to be pursued.

2. It is in our interest to continue encouraging rebels / FFs to a degree that the region remains a buffer between us and India. If we have patriotic and smart leaders we could use this to bargain for concessions /advantages. Wily India, aware of this, has installed over us quislings like Hasina, Dipu and Gowhar Rizvi

LBA and Teesta is too big a price for these burnt out "rebels". Teesta, in particular, is firmly opposed by West Bengal. We may thank you in other ways.

Shoot them all, we won't complain.

And I hope these terrorists are not hiding in Bangladesh with Govt. help.

I wonder what happened to the Indian posters now? Why they are not shouting in unison about this false news about NE rebellion? They always brag that there is no NE rebels anymore in their holy land called India.

India should give outright independence or at least regional autonomy to the NE. Let the people there build and develop their country. Bangladesh will be there to help them develop that entity. NE has no future with India. Even to build a power plant India had to request BD to allow transit of the machines.

No one ever claimed that NE is totally Free from rebels but there number is so less that there influence is almost insignificant. News about terror attack is almost extinct.

Bangladeshis want a free and unstable NE so there religious extremist can migrate here since new and unstable country won't able to provide resistance like BSF and fulfil their dream of greater Bangladesh.

You may dig a very deep hole and bury your dream of "Greater Bangladesh" in that. :)
