North Korean media: Japan will become ‘ENEMY OF HUMANKIND’ if it bolsters defense policy
19 Jun, 2020 14:29 / Updated 9 days ago

North Korean media have condemned Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's announcement that he will review the country’s security policy and bolster its defenses, denouncing the move as an “extremely dangerous act.”

Abe revealed on Friday that Tokyo would consider acquiring preemptive strike capability to defend against enemy missile attacks, while keeping in line with its “exclusively defense-oriented” war-renouncing constitution.

Explaining the move, Abe said Japan needed to “renew” its discussions on “adequate deterrence” in light of North Korea’s advancing missile technology.

State news agency KCNA blasted Abe’s move, saying it could turn Japan into a “war-capable” state and would enable it to "legalize overseas invasion.” The North Korean agency warned Japan would “turn itself into the common enemy of humankind” if it made constitutional revisions.

Pyongyang said Japan's post-World War II constitution, which renounced war and limits the country's armed forces to operate only in self-defense, is a “legal commitment” to the international community.

KCNA also claimed a petition was signed by “hundreds of thousands” of citizens in opposition to the move, calling it an "eruption" of public anger. However, the petition in question could not be found online.

Earlier this week, Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono said the government would halt a plan to introduce the US-developed Aegis Ashore land-based missile defense system over technical and cost issues.

The suspension sparked a political dispute in Japan, with the opposition saying the Defense Ministry should be held accountable for the 12 billion yen ($112 million) that Japan had already spent on the system.

The Aegis Ashore, a system of radars, computers, and missiles, was meant to help Tokyo counter weapons advances by North Korea, with Japan aiming to be the third country to introduce the system after Romania and Poland.

The government had originally guaranteed that the interceptor missile site would not become a hazard for residents living next to the facility, but ultimately could not guarantee that booster rockets for the interceptors would land in the correct locations. The Japanese defense minister said ensuring the safety of residents would require an expensive and time-consuming hardware upgrade, and the ministry said it was committed to considering alternatives.

grandstanding! :) sorry, Japanese... ;)

i do support the Japanese becoming a LOT stronger, now that CHINA is building that infamous belt-and-road initiative...

why? well, any nation that is geographically as large as China, is to be viewed with much suspicion by the rest of the world, when it starts building a huge network of roads and other (semi-)international infrastructure..
you see, this is exactly what Hitler did before he started WW2.
and such developments are to be viewed with much scrutiny, suspicion, and counter-preparation.

mid-to-long-term effects according to your analysis please?
well, there's going to be discontent, disapproval and many bad feelings, among much of the rest of the Asian leaderships, about all of these military expansion plans by China.

but, let's not forget, China might have VERY SECRET and VALID reasons for doing all this.
only time can tell. much time. we'll know in years or decades, when these long distance train lines and new navy of the Chinese have been roaming the world for a while...

China and Japan should form a temporary military alliance. They need to restore the greatness of East Asia.

There are no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.

Didn't US do that earlier in the past? Ever heard The Marshall Plan?

i'm fairly good at all of those "sports".. (arts.. they're martial arts)

Didn't US do that earlier in the past? Ever heard The Marshall Plan?
the US might be short on gold supplies at the moment, and maybe even for the next few decades.. wanna know more? just ask me..

About that Marshall Plan.. the US provides only the necessary amount of help, and have proven themselves over and over to retreat back into their own country. China has yet to prove itself with a military machine at it's disposal that is as powerful as that of the other major powers on Earth (the militarily-strong nations)

That's the difference between China and US, US exert influence by force, China by investments and infrastructure building, let future tell which way is better.

ok, and meanwhile, the "western part of the world" (the USA and it's many allies), want to be allowed to severely distrust China and it's new allies (Vietnam, North-Korea, maybe Iran too) until history, in about one-hundred (100) to two-hundred (200) years, has decided which is actually better.

Today I learned that Vietnam is an ally of China.

Today I learned that Vietnam is an ally of China.

Before 1975, North Vietnam was an ally with China and the Soviet Union
After 1975, Vietnam was an ally with the Soviet Union and against China

Reason:

Before 1975, North Vietnam needed aid from two nations, to fight South Vietnam and the United States

After April 30, 1975, the north and the south united.

At the time, the Soviet Union was a superpower, China was the third world nation, and the two countries had many conflicts. If Vietnam shows a clear attitude, sided with the Soviet Union, Vietnam will receive more benefits.

Another reason is the South China Sea (Vietnam calls it "EAST SEA/Biển Đông"). China claims all of the South China Sea. Before 1975, North Vietnam did not object because North Vietnam needed aid from China, but after 1975 it was different. Many small islands in the South China Sea are occupied by South Vietnam. North Vietnam defeated South Vietnam, they felt that the winner should receive all the assets from the loser. The South China Sea has many resources, no one rejects this benefit.

Therefore, Vietnam claims sovereignty over the South China Sea(Biển Đông) and is ready to conflict with China. Lê Duẩn believes that with the support of the Soviet Union, Vietnam will win. Seizing property and deporting people of Chinese origin (người gốc Hoa/Hoa Kiều) are the first thing he does.

Eventually, the two nations from allies, became enemies.

Many people believe that: China and Vietnam became enemies starting in 1979 after the Cambodian-Vietnamese War (Chiến tranh biên giới Tây Nam) and Vietnam-Sino war (Chiến tranh biên giới phía Bắc). This is a mistake. The problem started in 1975 and may be before 1975

PRC needs to respect the Senkaku islands being Japan's then.

PRC also needs to respect Taiwan's choice in identity and the status of Taiwanese's island of Taiwan.

And PRC needs to respect international water way in the South China Sea.

That's the difference between China and US, US exert influence by force, China by investments and infrastructure building, let future tell which way is better.

Wait until the other pro-CCP posters walk in here chanting the might makes right argumants about their perception of futute dominant PRC power where Japan would have no choice but to kow-tow. So when they come and do that, it just becomes evident of the collective Pro-CCP posters doing good cop bad cop for giving propaganda voice towards advancing the same expansionism goal of the PRC.

Are you from Vietnam?
I doubt it.
Nobody seriously thinks that way.
From geopolitics it’s like committing suicide.
The greatness of East Asia will bring millions of deaths.

As if you didn't kow tow to America in the past 70 years.

Japan would be weaker in an alliance with the PRC because the PRC seeks what would weaken Japan strategic situation with claim on Senkaku islands and Taiwan. Also, when Japan past the new defense bills, the US, Australia, the Philippines, India, etc. supported Japan. It was the PRC warning Japan to "not forget history" in indication to troll history narrative and criticized Japan in passing the new defense laws. PRC is criticizing Japan for considering preemptive capacity as well. So very obviously, the PRC aims for a weaker Japan than what the US finds acceptable. And you know it becausewe debated it many times and each time you ignore it.
