Only if contestants confine their disagreements in the intellectual arena and uses ink instead of blood. The reason the pen is 'mightier' than the sword is because ideas can be disseminated to a wider range of audience, whereas arts of war are generally restricted to selected few. Ideas can build upon each other without destroying each other, whereas with the military, once wielded its first mission is literally to destroy. We know that communists and dictatorships do not like the pen, only the sword.
