Non-party govt must for credible polls: Yunus

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus on Thursday said there was ‘no scope’ for holding the next general elections without a ‘non-party’ caretaker government.A non-party government is a must for a participatory and credible election, hetold reporters after a meeting with Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddiqui at Yunus Centre.

Kader Siddiqui said he and Yunus had agreed that the next general election would be a very crucial event. Most political parties would not contest the polls without a caretaker government, he said, alleging that the present government was more ruthless than Hitler’s dictatorship.
Yunus and Siddique held the meeting when Awami League and BNP have taken opposite stands about the way the election should be held.

The AL says that the next elections would be held as per the constitution that allows no caretaker government. But BNP insists that the polls must be held under a ‘non-party’ caretaker government.

Yunus, a strong critic of the present government, said the political leaders should start discussions immediately to resolve the controversy over the next general elections and the issue of caretaker government.

Yunus said the country seemed headed for a crisis that the people did not want. He said the people would not forgive any party or individual who would be instrumental to such a crisis.
He thanked the Election Commission for eventually not changing the Representation of the People Order (RPO). ‘I hope the EC will not bring any changes to the RPO before the elections,’ he said.

Yes,Finally he's openly speaking out!

He should speak more and show his love for Bangladesh, not for the poor people and his own achievement only.

He not only does his work for the benefit of Bangladesh, but for the world.

Bangladesh.....oh to say about that country. Back in the day, things like the mafia and the sort had their own space in society. There were certain barriers. Right now, there isn't any in Bangladesh.

Present day politics of Bangladesh are mafia-like and family-centric. Those are what are destroying this nation with a culture of intimidation and immunity.

That makes things volatile and sensitive. Things get ugly really fast. Not the kind of stuff that a true gentleman like Dr. Yunus would be in.

The only force that can put out this darkness for good are the Western powers. This culture of intimidation and immunity must end. Otherwise, the nation may very well be progressing toward a dystopia (it may already well be).

Anyway, I hope he can act to make a solid change. Those two hags must go.

Some may say that Islamists like Hefajot are the answer, but in that messy environment? Not really. At least not now.

DHAKA: State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary affairs, advocate Quamrul Islam on Saturday accused the Nobel laureate Dr Mohammad Yunus of hatching a conspiracy to make Bangladesh a failed state.

“Dr Yunus is one of the masterminds of making the country a failed state by putting obstruction on the way of foreign investment in Bangladesh,” he said this while addressing a discussion meeting at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the city.

He also suggested Prof Yunus not to make such controversial remarks for his own interest.

You guys should employ consultants from BD for improving sanitation system...they know how to build low cost hygienic toilets. Also, they know how to make people stop practicing open defecation :).

Plz don't hope so, don't wanna see personality like him getting insulted more by these thug gangs. Also, he can't change anything and at the end he'll have to carry the strain of failure and our blind criticism will also be there that we generally do without going deep.

I meant you to be qualified 1st as a nation....being observer is far dream for you. Consultants will show the way how you can get rid of the curse of open defecation....the cleaning part will be trained well so you avoid health risk but you yourself have to clean..plz do that labor at least and show that education did work in the jungles.
